Camacho by commanding decision. Early-to-mid 80s Hector was plain and simple better than Loma ever was. Loma choked against a Camacho wannabe.
Loma on myth alone. Loma only on recency bias and the fact he's more liked. The reality is that Camacho has a deeper resume and a more dominant prime.
Camacho liked doing that lame as multi-slap avalanche and then immediately clinch to make it look like it was the opponent holding. I don't think he would get away with that against Lomachenko.
Camacho is probably more overhyped than Loma. I liked the guy, but he was much more flash than substance. As much as we criticize Loma for his non performance against Lopez, Camacho had quite a few of these. Does Camacho really has a better resume than Loma? I'm far from sure. Both were lower greats for their respective generation. I dont see any real gap between them
I'll take wins over Limon, Ramirez, Rosario, Davis, Paz, Baltazar, and Haugen over Loma's incredibly thin resume. At least Camacho's best wins were over guys his size. Loma's career defining win came over a past-primmed 122 pounder. I dont know if Loma even beats Ramirez, I really dont. I'm VERY confident in saying that Loma gets stopped by Rosario. Even Howard Davis - Davis was a FUCK of a lot better than Haney; Camacho shut him (Davis) out. Loma has a close fight with Haney; yet conveniently still looks like vintage Loma when he beats up Bozos. Loma was a myth. Its awfully bold to pick him over the genuine article Camacho, when he a has a clear loss on his record to a rip off version of Camacho. And dont give me the excuse of "Ohhh but Teo has more power than Camacho" yeah yeah yeah.. Teo is shit. Teo never in a million years beats a prime Camacho. Nothing but excuses for Loma. The man did nothing to suggest he beats Camacho.
I disagree with this. I think his best weight was easily 130. That's the weight a matchup with Camacho would make the most sense at. Hector is a clear favorite at 135. For what its worth, I could see Loma potentially beating Hector at 130 before I could see him beating Floyd, Chavez, or Arguello at 130. I dont think Loma lasts the distance at 130 with those 3.
Maybe not, but that's worthless. Camacho went into every fight lasting the distance. Loma if even in a losing effort wouldn't run and hold to get there.
Camacho's best performance at 130 was a 5th round blow out. Its just objectively false to say he was always some safety first fighter. And Loma didn't have anywhere near the power of Rosario -- I dont think he would bring out Camacho's caution. I dont think you're giving Camacho nearly enough credit. He took an unholy beating from Chavez and hung in, even when he had no reason to. A lot of guys would have retired on their stools from the Chavez beating. Hell maybe even Loma would have. I do not believe for one second that Loma had some Matthew Saad/Holyfield level of heart and desire. He pissed away both the Lopez and Haney fights while failing to show any sense of urgency, so spare me.
I'm saying lasting the distance doesn't mean much the way Camacho often did. Loma could have and should have done more, but in his decision losses they were very close and not routs.
Rethinking about it, you're right, Camacho has a much better resume than Loma. Still, he has too many struggles and close fights against very ordinary guys like Haugen, Paz and Mancini for me to discount Loma chances against him
And yes, while it's true that Loma never faced anyone that was anywhere close as good as chavez, dlh or tito, Camacho was so pathetic in these fights, that I doubt Loma wouldnt have done better (even if he provably gets stoppes by all 3)
I dont discount Loma against Camacho, but their career results do indicate that Camacho should be the favorite. This might sound controversial, but imo Loma was closer in level to prime Casamayor than he was prime Camacho.
How about camacho lasting the distance with Trinidad? Still, it's not like he's on a different level than Loma like you're suggesting. Camacho's sxhtick worked well against brawlers like Limon but guys with real skill usually put him in a shell.
