Their manager is a guy who looks like he should be running the Marrakech Chapter of Al Qaeda and their footballing philosophy is basically "throw £80m.Maguire on, see what happens"

Despite all of this, they remain objects of sympathy and best-wishes. Their predicament -entirely self manufactured - is passed over as if it was some terrible undeserved misfortune.

Their ex-players have jurys rigged so they can beat domestic abuse raps. Other ex-players work full time as kite-fliers and narrative-mongers.

England's Club, and as United go, so go England, it seems.

This happens all of the time in North America. Billionaire owners and their multi-million dollar employees need the commoners who are the sole reason they are so rich in the first place to fund it. When there's push back it's the same thing every time. Owner threatens to move the team. They try to somehow claim they can't really afford it and when they are asked to open their books the answer is of course no.
