Who's the best fighter in history you would favor Canelo to beat?

Those guys....Hatton, Ryder, Smith, Rhodes aren't even generational UK talents. Saunders was good. I'll give Canelo credit for figuring him out.

Maybe Norris at 154 or Tito at 160.

Tito was in love with his power by then and loading up on damn near every shot. I can see him dropping a decision to Canelo.

I think Canelo would have a hard time beating a pre Hopkins version of Tito. He’s always been vulnerable to counter left hooks and he doesn’t have fast feet.

He’d definitely have a better chance against Norris due to the shaky chin, but not before struggling with the movement and speed of Norris.

Fair point. But considering how Canelo often gives rounds away, I could see Vargas building up a huge lead and having to endure shaky moments en route to a decision win. I don’t see a KO either way.

Canelo beats Reíd imo, but he wouldn’t have an easy time dealing with Reid’s speed and movement.

    Canelo KOs Mayorga, imo.

Wins a competitive decision against Margarito.

    Winky Wright outboxes Canelo, imo.

    Depends on which Norris.....

Norris of the Mullings fight gets beat

Winky had Vargas and let him go. He stylistically is too much for Canelo but like Canelo did Vs Lara he might just "outgut" Winky

Could definitely see that, as far as Canelo vs Winky goes.

The version of Norris who outboxed Brown in the rematch beats Canelo, imo.

Canelo is just not very good, is he? Lol

He’s an overachiever. A great example of someone who was matched well to look better than he was. Fought in a weak era, imo.

Canelo is very good but he's always been flawed and it was apparent pretty early.
I don't think this fight changed anyone's opinion very much.

I don't remember very many people picking Canelo vs. most of the greats between 154-168 lbs in the various debates we've had on this site.

Seems to have justified their opinions which is weird. Guy clearly looks declined the past several fights and is in year 18 as a pro

And this coming from a person who was robbed without a gun in Las Vegas 8 years ago today when he "drew" with golovkin

I think in my mind this fight resembled an old Hopkins moving up two weight classes to fight Tarver who was a 4-1 favorite and winded up getting schooled worse than Canelo.

Speaking of which, Tarver may be the best fighter Canelo can beat considering Glen Johnson was able to do it

Tarver would have beaten the fuck outta Canelo.

The Tarver that beat Roy would have smacked Canelo around.

pavlik canelo wouldve been interesting. pavlik was never knocked out but not much of a mover.

mike nunn wouldve beat him almost for sure. hard to tell his class.

Honestly, I'm not even sure Canelo beats Jean Pascal at 168. Would be a tremendous fight imo

Canelo definitely would be the underdog against guys like Nunn and Kalambay.

I’ve always felt he would lose to a number of those late 80s/early 90s MWs. Division was stacked with talent.

Canelo would have picked him apart. Pascal was way too open and Canelo's body attack would have broken him down.

I agree. Pascal is going too far. Canelo wins a clear decision over Pascal.

Pascal has a good shot against Canelo, at least at 175

    Would Canelo beat Badou Jack?

Yes, let's not get ridiculous now. Canelo's only lost to 4 elite/HOF fighters; I counted Golovkin since Golov clear as day beat Canelo once.

Canelo's not losing to a 2nd rate guy like Jack.

He could, but that's not a knock on Canelo. That can happen to anyone. (and has)

He's like an elite B+ pro boxer.

Im not so sure. Jack was much bigger and beat a lot of solids 168-175 pounders. Thinking about it, he probably would be Canelo best wins at these weights (i dont count the sham that was the Kovalev fight)

  28. Neil

Jack is a borderline hof'er by proxy based on his bouts with the 2 Haitian :emoji_frog::emoji_frog:

  29. Azazel

Agreed, p4p yes he gets beaten up but at 175 lbs it would be interesting imo as he's much bigger naturally than Canelo
