I remember that tournament like the back of my hand for some reason. They were very unlucky to lose to Brazil in the opener, then had a hard-fought 2-2 draw against a very good Norway side. People thought they were finally going to get past the group stage in a major tournament for the first time, but they were absolutely thrashed by a Mustapha Hadji-inspired Morocco 3-0. Morocco themselves were in tears on the pitch afterwards too because Norway beat Brazil 2-1 to pip them to second place.

I vaguely remember euro 92 mostly b/c before the match vs Russia ('CIS') my dad confidently declared '3-0, they'll win 3-0' and I was still young enough to believe my dad somehow knew everything so was genuinely wowed

In 1990 they beat Sweden and hanged tough Vs Brazil for 80 minutes but couldn't get a fucking draw Vs Costa Rica that would have put them through.

Sweden for the record lost every game 2-1,2-1,2-1 and that WAS a decent Swedish side.

I think if you ever wanna see the trajectory of Scottish fitbaw the best illustration is that video which charts the nationality of scorers in European club competition. From the 50s through early 90s Scotland is neck & neck with Germany and England. Ahead of Spain, Italy, Holland, Soviet union etc. It basically just stops early 90s.
