Both were solid and competent enough guys to win titles but not elite level like Gomez, Ortiz, Benitez, Trinidad, Rosario, Cotto, Camacho, etc.

I think cotto is pretty clearly a top 5 rican atg, but you have to give him every benefit of the doubt and even more to have him at 1st.

Still is probably my favorite rican boxer ever. Was a huge fan at the beggining of his career, much less so at the end, but was still a fan

Camacho was greater than Cotto. Hector is just hated and Miguel is loved, but Hector had a more dominate prime and his big wins were won in clearer fashion.

People also feel bad for Cotto because the PERCEPTION is that he got cheated in the first Margarito fight, but there remains no evidence of that -- just speculation. Its really hard to fathom Marg slipped tampered wraps past the number one commission in the world in THE biggest fight of 2008.

In Cotto, we're talking about a guy who lost 9-3 to Trout and got a total gift over Clottey. Who was Cotto's big signature win over a prime guy?

His best wins were a razor close decision over a faded Mosley, the Margarito rematch where Pac had ruined Margarito, and a win over a crippled Martinez who was ruined by the Chavez Junior fight.

Cotto's overrated because he's liked. Camacho is underrated because he's disliked.

In terms of quality, there is no one who can tell me with a straight face that prime Cotto was on par with the mid-80s Camacho.

Cotto is number 6 on the Rican list imo.

The Macho that ran around the ring after Edward Rosario cracked him would win 12-0 over Teofimo

Speaking of Edward, how would Teo fare against him

Cotto is also only 6 on greatness.

If talking just plain peak level, DeJesus and Jose Torres were better fighters than Cotto. Torres' win over Pastrano blows away any Cotto performance.

Rosario would absofuckinglutely murder Teo. It would have been ugly and probably a replay of the Bramble fight if we're being honest. Teo doesnt have the chin nor the defense to stand a chance with Chapo.

    The bum lost to KAMBOZOS!

This is no nostalgia bias at all, its just facts.

Teofimo would nothing more than a fringe guy in the 80s.

Honest to God I would not even take Teo over Greg Haugen let alone Edwin fucking Rosario -- Haugen was a vastly better version of Bozos.

Gomez surely is the Rican GOAT.

Tito has a place - sure he was exposed by Hopkins, but the fact he even fought Hopkins at all shows his desire for greatness. Few have that desire now, it's all about their latest haircut and Lamborghini. Tito went and banged it out with a big dog and got rinsed, but.... he banged it out. He didn't run away. Tito would have fought at heavyweight if he had a chance.

Most fighters don’t have that desire or ambition anymore. They just want to preserve their records.

Gomez and Trinidad were killers, but they had nothing on Verdejo in that area.
