Looking back 20 years ago. 2006 gets often overlooked, especially when it followed up with the year that had Corrales vs Castillo and Morales vs Pacquiao. Somsak Sithchawtchawal vs Mahyar Monshipour is easily the stand out fight of 2006 in terms of high action and drama which rightfully earned FOTY that year but what other fights comes close to that one?
I dont remember shit from 2006 in boxing as far as notable action fights go. It was a weak year tbh. My top sports memory from 06 was Kobe dropping 81 points.
Only notable high profile fights I can think of from that year was Mayweather vs Baldomir/Judah, Pacquiao vs Morales 2&3, Hopkins vs Tarver, Barrera vs Juarez, ODLH vs Mayorga, Mosley vsVargas 1&2, Wright vs Taylor, Maskaev vs Rahman 2, Toney vs Peters 1, Klitschko vs Byrd/Brock. Out of all those only Pac vs Morales 2/3, Mosley vs Vargas 1, Barrera vs Juarez 1 and Wright vs Taylor were entertaining. There was also Lamon Brewster vs Sergei Iiakhovich and Tomsaz Adamek vs Paul Briggs 2 that were pretty great to watch.
He does remind me of a less skilled version of Fenech. Fun fighter to watch though. A fight between him and Israel Vazquez would have been epic had they fought.
