He's a problem for any middleweight!! According to MAXie SHILLstone Apparently the Irish Roy Jones Jr didnt look so hot vs a domestic can
"The Entertainer" Johnny Nelson literally just said, "McKenna by winning the world title has put himself in the conversation with fantasy fight against the likes of Marvin Hagler." Words fail me. I'll give you a clue, Johnny, not very well for McKenna, not very well at all
Yeah myself and others have for YEARS been highlighting the shit that that guy and his mates come out with.
Depends how much Boots took out of him. McKenna is a 160lbr and a big one so if Boots wrecked Zayas like Benavidez diud Morrel or even just undermined him like Mugabi did Hagler then who knows..... But it's unlikely McKenna will have a long and glittering career.
Poor fare, McKenna has a fairly ugly style, his opponent was obviously listening to the commentators, he seemed to get discouraged early in the fight.
RTE website was reporting that Olinha was basically quittng upright after 8 rounds. I fear we may be in for this generations version of Bernard Dunne.... 20,000 morons in Italia 90 shirts screaming ole~ole~ole as McKenna goes 12 with Tommy the Tongan and Vinny the Venezuelan until some unknown quantity stretches him in 4 shocking rounds. Too bad Jimmy Magee still isn't with us.
I always liked Bernard Dunne, good action fighter with a mediocre chin and a genuine personality...this guy is very basic, jab jab grab...hopefully he is put in with someone decent soon and goes the way of Willie big bang Casey, one of the more funny 'what were you thinking?' matchmaking disasters in Irish boxing history
Stylewise and skill wise Dunne was markedly superior, more fluid, varied, just far better albeit flawed. If Dunne had McCulloughs chin he'd have been very good.
Jesus I'd forgotten about big bang Casey. That was up there with Oisin Not So Artful Dodger Fagin vs Khan.
Look at that crowd and introduction and within two minutes, it's tumbleweed. As I remember, they broke the bank to bring him over, clearly lost their tiny minds.
El chacal was good at smashing these pasty palookas faces. Jazza dickens suffered similar fate as casey
I always associate the end of his reign with the demise of the Celtic Tiger. It was 2007, the banking catastrophe and implications were just starting to become clear, Dunne was blown out in a full stadium, and the circus packed up and left town. The hysteria of the Cordoba fight had imploded, the bill had arrived. it was years (Willie Casey) before boxing was back in the national broadcaster
Off topic but you may have noted the demise last week of Michael Fingleton, former Irish Nationwide boss who managed to avoid jail time for contributing greatly to the borrowing crash which bankrupted the country. He died in his sleep, years after contributing to numerous early deaths, family breakups...don't get me started.
Yes I spotted that on rte plus the very staid, deferential tone of his send off on the site of the "national broadcaster". Fucking pathetic. But sure here... did you hear about Mayo! Wha! Wha! Gwan!!
