You're right. At least once upon a time, Ray Leonard was a great fighter.

 

He was great, but he tried to retire everytime someone punched him in the eye. That counts against his legacy.

Charles was more skilled and his resume was pretty amazing. I think he deserved a higher ranking.

 

People are the same way with baseball. They think pitchers from the deadball era are better than today's pitchers, and that Ty Cobb would hit .400 against today's hitters.

It does suck, but it's sure as hell better than anything you ever thought of writing.

 

IMO while possible that the improved dietary, health etc. conditions of today contribute to better athletes across the sports including boxing.....
this is balanced in the case of boxing by the fact that they fought a lot more often, more elite-match-ups were made more often (is this disputable?), that boxing was a lot more popular a sport (sticking to USA and western europe) and had a deeper talent pool to draw from as a result, and that this depth also resulted in a consequent greater depth at trainer level and a more varied and richer bank of knowledge from which they could tap...Therefore, I don't think in many ways that its a stretch to say that the training available at boxing gyms generally is of a lower quality now than what was available x number of years ago, and that we "know" less now...

 

Mayorga's Style isn't THAT Archaic:nono: ...

Even HE Has a CONSIDERABLE Talent & Skill ADVANTAGE over MANY Silent Film Era Fighters...

Football,Basketball,Baseball,Track & Field,Soccer & Countless Other Athletes R BETTER than the Forefathers of their Particular Sports...

That's just retarded. While there are a few total jobbers that have made it on film, there were no champions from that era any worse than Mayorga.

Really surprised RJJ isn't on Max's list. Then again, this list seems to be based on accomplishment and longevity at a high level.

Amd Roy just beat much better guys independent of the signature wins.

The Ruiz performance was more impressive than the Canelo performance, if we're being totally honest.

Anyone with a boxing brain knew in advance that Bud was gonna outclass Shitnelo.

I think the 1999 Kellerman would be disgusted with 90% of the opinions and lists of the 2026 Kellerman.

Max has sold out. That list was made to appeal to casuals. Max in his 20s spoke to hardcores.

It's quite possible that getting fired by ESPN prompted him to dumb himself down to appeal to the mainstream audience; a mainstream audience which is mostly stupid.

Toney was taking piss shots and eating lettuce for a week before the fight. Is Toney a better fighter than Slence? Absolutely. But he was a spent force that night.

Allegedly some guy at ringside said he heard Toneys stomach making noises all during the fight.
