I doubt it'll happen but Benavidez climbed into the ring and called out Opetaia to his face and they shook on it.

Benavidez reckons he can knock out Opetaia in 6 rounds. Opetaia has looked lacklustre in his last couple of fights despite being barely troubled.

Will Benavidez' large nipples befuddle Opetaia and walk him into a 50 punch combo? Or will Benavidez get bombed out by a Samoan sledgehammer?

Yeah I'll pick Opetaia cos he's a pitbull, but he ain't winning without his A game. He tends to fight to the level of his opponent but Benavidez is a pitbull too which makes it tasty.

I think Benavidez will win, a lot more creases to his game. Opetaia annoys me, I think he has natural talent, he hits hard and is mean, all good traits, but he ignores fundamental things like jabbing his way inside, or even really using his jab at all for long stretches, smothers his own work etc. Saying all that though, I'm looking forward to it.

Anyway I asked Gemini about the matchup FWIW.

In a fantasy matchup between Jai Opetaia (Samoan-Australian) and David Benavidez (Mexican-American), the broad physiological traits of their respective cultures clash perfectly in the ring.
Both men are undefeated titans, but they present vastly different interpretations of strength and cardio. The physical breakdown of how their genetics and athletic profiles would interact at cruiserweight (200 lbs) reveals distinct differences:

    1. Strength & Power: Natural Frame vs. Calculated Volume
    • Jai Opetaia (The Natural Cruiserweight Power): Consistent with the Polynesian phenotype, Opetaia possesses exceptional bone density, a wider skeletal frame, and massive core/shoulder strength. He is a life-long, natural 200-pounder. His strength manifests as explosive, single-punch stopping power and the physical leverage to avoid being shoved backward in the clinches. His dense frame transfers kinetic energy ruthlessly.
    • David Benavidez (The Relentless Heavy-Handed Pressure): Benavidez is a phenomenon because he brings Mexican-style pressure to the higher weight classes. Historically a super-middleweight (168 lbs) and light-heavyweight (175 lbs), he moved up to cruiserweight to dethrone Gilberto Ramirez. He doesn’t rely on single-shot "one-punch" explosive power like Opetaia. Instead, his strength is sustained, heavy-handed thudding power delivered via vicious, crushing combinations.
    • The Matchup Dynamic: Opetaia would hold the advantage in raw, physical mass and absolute punch leverage. Benavidez, while incredibly strong, is a rehydrated smaller man fighting a natural giant.
    2. Cardio & Work Rate: Aerobic Engine vs. Fast-Twitch Efficiency
    • David Benavidez (The Bottomless Mexican Engine): True to the elite Mexican boxing archetype, Benavidez possesses an absurdly high cardiovascular ceiling. He defies the typical aerobic limitations of bigger men. "The Mexican Monster" fights at a frenetic, suffocating volume, throwing 60–80 heavy punches a round without slowing down. His lighter natural frame allows his heart to pump oxygenated blood to his muscles much more efficiently than a traditional 200-pounder, giving him a massive advantage in long-distance endurance.
    • Jai Opetaia (Elite Athleticism for a Big Man): Opetaia breaks the stereotype of the heavy, slow-plodding Samoan fighter. He possesses an elite gas tank for a cruiserweight, but it operates differently. Opetaia's cardio is built around fast-twitch lateral footwork, angles, and explosive bursts. He manages his oxygen efficiently by bouncing on his toes and dictating range, but if he is forced into a brutal inside war where he has to carry Benavidez’s weight, his denser muscle mass will inevitably burn oxygen much faster.
    • The Matchup Dynamic: Benavidez holds the edge in pure volume and late-round cardiovascular endurance. If the fight hits rounds 9 through 12 and becomes a grueling inside war, Benavidez’s engine is built to out-work Opetaia.
    3. Who wins?

In an incredibly close 2027 cruiserweight blockbuster, Jai Opetaia is predicted to win by a hard-fought split decision. While David Benavidez’s bottomless Mexican cardio and suffocating high-volume pressure will allow him to dominate the middle-to-late rounds, Opetaia's natural Samoan size, elite southpaw movement, and blistering counter-punches will prove decisive early on. The natural cruiserweight champion will control the distance, landing the cleaner, heavier single-shot impact punches to pocket enough early rounds and survive a late, ferocious onslaught from "The Mexican Monster" to secure a narrow victory on the judges' scorecards.

    People actually believe that shit.

Same as when Lewis fought Tua.

Tua was just too much Samoan for the tea drinking pussy.

    Lost.
