Joe Calzaghe's father/trainer Enzo Calzaghe has lashed out at Jack Loew, trainer of WBC/WBO middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik. Enzo who also trains Pavlik's June 7 challenger Gary Lockett, takes offense in Loew's statement that maybe Enzo can teach Lockett to slap like a girl - just like his son Joe. "Loew had better hope and pray that Lockett doesn't slap like Joe because if he does it's going to be goodnight for Kelly Pavlik," said Enzo. "...I have not seen anything from Kelly Pavlik whatsoever that worries me. He's a good fighter but he's mechanical, it's the same thing, same thing, same thing all the time. I can't get worried about it....he's never heard of Gary Lockett, never seen him fight, but Lockett knows all about Kelly Pavlik, and he is in for a surprise on June 7. His team opened their mouths and talked the talk, but can they walk the walk?" Pavlik and Lockett meet June 7th at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City.

This guy must be high! I can understand him believing that his son can beat Pavlik, but he HAS to know in the back of his head that Lockett has no prayer. He's only doing harm to Lockett by pissing Pavlik off like this. Now Kelly is gonna take it out on poor Gary. This mismatch will end inside of 5 rounds!

BTW - I'm STILL mad that Duddy got cut! I was very much looking forward to seeing Pavlik plaster him.

Pavlik is always going to be vulnerable to a puncher because he gets hit. Lockett is a puncher.
Fact is, your thread title is incomplete. Enzo is returning shit talk with shit talk.

Hopefully Lockett gets the same treatment Macaroni did.

I wonder what Enzon will say then.

Have you actually seen the guy fight? Or are you judging by his record. I'm curious to know if this dude is any good.

I've seen him a few times. Lockett is pretty limited, but he is durable and he most certainly can punch. If Pavlik takes him for granted, an upset is, theoretically at least, possible.

That said, it would be an upset of monumental proportions. I'd put Lockett's chances at somewhere around 5%.

Tam made me change my sig. He whined for sooooooooo long that I had to change it for fear of my keyboard breaking down in tears... :dunno:

Fuck Enzo Calzaghe. He's the most overrated trainer in the world. Every time one of his guys if about to fight, he blows a whole plethora of smoke out of his ass about how limited the other guy is and how he's formulated a plan to take him out.

Next thing you know, he's scraping his man off the canvas and chuntering about how unimpressed he was by the other guy. :notallthere:

I wonder how good Joe Calzaghe would have been if he'd had a proper trainer?

I just watched the only fight I could find of his on youtube. It was only a couple rounds and it was against the guy who beat him. He fought the guy twice and I don't know which fight it was. In any case, he was slightly better than I expected him to be, not real fast but faster than Pavlik. The guy he was fighting was a right hander and Lockett was moving to his left, right into his oppenints power hand. This was I think his 16th or 17th fight so maybe he corrected this by now. He wasn't too aggressive either and liked to lead with a jab. He won't win that contest against Pavlik. Seems like he's got a style that on't pose much of a problem for Pavlik. He's pretty basic and not elusive at all.

That sums him up pretty well. As I said, he has a puncher's chance and not a lot else.

It's the sheer VOLUME of shite that he talks which makes me laugh.

You know, he told Gavin Rees that Kotelnik couldn't punch all the way through their training camp prior to that fight? I can't remember where I read it, and I'll see if I can find it, but basically he told Rees that the best plan was to just plough forward and take Andreas' shots in order to get inside because Kotelnik was basically feather-fisted...

Rees' first words after being KTFO in the 12th:

"I had no idea he'd be so strong or be able to punch so hard..."

    Poor lamb.

I'm looking forward to seeing Lockett get blasted out of the ring by Pavlik.

I've watched him a few times. Always has an excuse for his poor performance. "I was sick, I didn't train, I had no time to prepare".

I'll enjoy watching him take a good hiding.

Yeah. Credit to Rees for making it so entertaining, because he took a real bad pounding in that fight. He tried his best to keep up his activity, but he came to the fight with a pellet gun.

Probably took years off his career in that one.

Yeah, the call of the fight wasn't exactly even-handed.

I think one of the announcers was more biased than the other in the scoring, there seemed to be some disagreement during the broadcast.

Rees was active, but that wasn't enough to win him rounds. I do think he did some good work to the body, though, even in some of the rounds he lost.

Jesus christ, what a joke. The setanta commentators should be put in a potato sack and beaten with sticks.

Steve Bunce is definitely a publicist, not a journalist. He takes money to talk certain fighters up. Woodhall MIGHT be at it too....but Dunce is deffo at it.

    I'm glad Rees lost.
