    accomplish shit in MMA.

thx for the ref for keeping anybody's chance alive to cash in when he fights his first halfway credible opponent.

Yes he has improved his ground game and it's better than anybody expected. Well tough shit he had none before. But the wors thing is his striking isn't really all that. It's slow winging, inaccurate and not even above average hard.

That dude he fought tonight went asleep from every wind stronger 5 lately and couldn't be finished by a perfectly landed combination. Not even be dropped.

His stamina sucks, too - basically he has nothing even close to a world class MMArtist.

I'm not saying he will or he won't become a good fighter, but don't forget that was the guys 3rd pro fight.

Maybe now he knows he needs to improve his cardio and ground skills if he wants to be an MMA fighter.

Actually his striking is OK. He's quite accurate too, especially with the uppercut, he caught thompson a few times while thompson's head was moving.

But he can't punch that hard, if he could China James would have been KTFO.

But yeah, when he comes across a world class MMA fighter he'll get dominated and stopped easily.

Thompson was smart. He knew he'd get brutally KO'ed if he stood with Kimbo so he took it to the ground every chance he got.

On the bright side, Kimbo showed incredible strength on the ground. And he was still throwing accurate power shots while exhausted in the third round.

On the negative side, Kimbo was easier to take down then I would have guessed.

I agree, also, another negative point I noticed is that his punches seemed to lose a lot of stream really early.

I stopped reading when I came across something akin to "Kimbo's striking sucks". Right.

The guy is in his mid 30's it's not like he exactly has a lot of time to improve. It's funny how you love a fraud like Kimbo and talk shit about a legit MMA guy like Lidell. :atu:

I thought the fight could have been stopped on the ground. Thompson threw about 25 shots to kimbo's head and the ref said that nothing was happening. Terrible stoppage at the end too.

If he had anything left in the tank whatsoever, Kimbo would have been stopped on the ground due to those elbows. He was a fish out of water.

The ref could have stopped the fight on the ground and there wouldnt have been any complaints. When the bell rang, the ref said nothing landed. That was some bullshit

I just accept him for what he is,an entertainer, thats done an excellent job of selling himself to get that mainstream attention most MMA fighters don't know how to do and there most of them are jealous of him for that.I never said he was going to be a legit top five heavyweight and its stupid of you to expect so much out of a fighter with 3 fights......seems you've bought into the Kimbo hype more than I have lol...I didn't even pick a winner for this fight because I had no clue on who was going to win too be honest.Thompson was a big step up for him and I said that in a recent thread and as usual I was right.

@ mex - so he landed two uppercuts while missing 4 hooks in between if that's accurate... fine...

I'd have a bigger problem if the fight was stopped at the end of the 2nd then I did with the actual stoppage. Yeah, Thompson wass hitting Kimbo, but those were pitty pat punches that weren't doing any real damage.

    It wasn't like Hughes\Penn 2.

If you had anything positive to say about him then I wouldn't call you a hater.I would just label you as being honest.

ok something positive - i think i admitted last night in the thread that i was surprised at the way he handled himself on the ground - it wasn't over at once like when Houston Alexander was forced to the ground.

And the things you hold in his favor like the money or his popularity (although it has not much to do with his abilities) are definitely respectable.

That he gets 6 figure paydays speaks for him or whoever does his managing and they better try to keep it that way as long as they can. I also hope they've done some nice ratings on CBS because that can only help MMA in general.

Believe it or not i have nothing against Kimbo just seen him live for the first time yesterday (his other fights on tape) and it was the FIRST real telling fight in my opinion.

Now your turn to write something negative so i don't have to label u as a groupie no more who feels the need to jump in defending whenever he gets criticism. :hammert:

P.S. i admit opening an own thread for it and without saying anything positive to the guy's credit forces the defending reaction, though.

Oh and something else the way he lifted his right arm when Thompson had a knee on it to get on top of the other guy was incredible. He seems to have some raw strength.

They are going to ride this guy until the wheels fall off, so of course they will take him on an easy path. I just hope he gets lit up real good when the time comes.

That was inexperience on Thompson's part more than anything. Despite his girth, he doesn't really know how to fully implement his size on an opponent on the bottom. There's a skill in keeping a guy pinned on the ground. But Thompson knows squat about Jiu Jitsu.
It's similar to the Houston Alexander/Thiago Silva fight. Houston despite all his incredible and superior strength tried to shift Silva off him but couldn't because of Silva's abilities on the ground. Abilities which Thompson knows nothing of. That's why I fear for Kimbo if he ever gets taken to the ground by a legitimate BJJ artist or grappler the pedigree of a Noguira or even a Werdum.

so by fear you are basically saying his chances on the ground vs. the likes of Nogueira or Werdum aren't that good?

 Uh.....yeah! It'll be very similar to Alexander/Thiago Silva. Alexander trying to use brute strength to turn Silva over but to no avail and getting pummelled. Brute strength won't beat solid JJ on the ground.

True. Heck he'll probably get knocked out in his next fight and be done away with. I'm hearing he's fighting that dude Rogers, the guy who won by KO in the first round in last night's card. Think that was the first fight but I missed it.
