Is Lucia "The Bull Dyker" Rijker still around? I know she has to be pushing 40 at least but she was a well rounded fighter that I don't think ever lost a fight.

skill wise the whole card was pretty shitty. In the UFC you usually have 2 or 3 guys who can operate on world class level for 2 or 3 rounds...

I thought the card was a joke. Seemed like a WWE type card. The dancing chicks was lame, announcing was horrendous, 2 gay stoppages, and no diversity was shown in the fights. It was set up as a rock em sock em robots card. No skill was shown in this card whatsoever. I realize Joe public does want to see excitement but they also want to see it's polished side, letting them know that it is a legit sport that actually takes skill and refinement.

Didn't Butterbean punch out Thompson in about 10 seconds?

    Butterball can crack! :nono:

Kimbo had him hurt multiple times via strikes, but Thompson would look to take it to the ground every time he got wobbled and for some reason Kimbo seemed to want to take it to the ground too.

I think Kimbo wanted to show people that he had been working on his ground game, but it backfired. It was pretty evident as he wilfully tried to put Thompson in a guillotine after having him wobbled pretty bad in the 2nd round. If he had kept the fight on his feet he coulda made the night a lot easier on himself, but I think all talk got to his head and he wanted to try to prove people wrong.

And he didn't look THAT bad on the ground until he got pinned in the 2nd

Thompson's got about 20 fights under his belt and 7-8 years of mma experience, including wins over Frye and Yoshida. Kimbo's trying to learn a little too quickly IMO.

Not to mention taking elbows and punches to the face as he was pinned down for a good minute probably sapped a bit of his punching power too, yet he still managed to explode Thompsons ear and stop the fight in the following round!

Butterbean didn't really stopped Thompson, he did catch him with a right hand that slighty hurt him then followed with a huge haymaker that missed, just at the moment, Thompson slipped and made it seems like he just crubbled from the haymaker prompting a ref stoppage

i thought it was a good night for MMA minus the controversies

lawler-smith was looking like an instant classic

man he took a huge kick in the 1st and didnt go down, not surprising to see what a tough fucker he is if you saw him fight pete sell (who was in his corner last night)

btw quote of the night: "I think i broke my foot and my head hurts but i would have fought until he killed me"

Absolutely disappointed the way the Lawler-Smith fight ended. Lawler was working Smith but it seemed like Smith's incredible resolve was starting to take it's toll and I really think he could have pulled it out.

    Can't wait for that rematch.

    i agree

i think smith was coming on

its not he got his ass totally kicked

he landed some real good hard kicks and shit

plus with the way he punches, it coulda ended in a split second

i do disagree when the announcers said lawler could be with any guy at 185 even anderson silva, no way, silva would rape him

Dude, I was yelling at the TV telling Smith to throw more body kicks. They were landing hard and having a real effect. Those body and leg kicks were wilting Lawler.

And I agree, Lawler is a talented guy but Silva is a different animal.

A few thought. First Gina Carano is far more skilled than Kimbo is. She has kicks, which Kimbo does not, she has stamina which Kimbo doesn't have and she has BJJ training far beyond what kimbo has. She is just all around better and her fight was way better.

Kimbo fucking sucks and is a straight up street fighting bum! He is everything MMA wants to get away from. A street fighting thug with no skill. He fucking gasses in one round, he has absolutely no clue on the ground. He keeps trying to pull guard with some weak half ass guillotine and just ends up on the bottom with no choke. His punches are sloppy as all hell! The guy is not even a good striker by MMA standards.

Kimbo is going to lose the very second they put him in with someone with some ground skills. Kimbo is lucky Thompson sucks as bad as he does on the ground.

There's a lot of hate in your post. But tell me who in MMA you would pick to straight up stand and trade with Kimbo?

Kimbo is shit in almost every aspect of MMA fighting including endurance, but the guy is accurate and powerful with his shots.

Basically anyone who can survive the first minute of the fight. He's like the old shot Tyson. Sure he has a punchers chance for the first round but beyond that he is garbage. Honestly, if James Thompson can take him that deep in a fight that says everything about Kimbo's so called great striking ability. Thomspon was brought in because his chin is horrible. They thought it would be a highlight reel KO and it almost backfired.

I'm just tired of this guy's hype, it bothers me as an actual fan of real fighters. This isn't the kind of press MMA needs. I thought they wanted to get away from the street thug image? That fight reminded me of the old days of UFC where guys would just jump off a bar stool and get in the cage. He's the modern day Tank Abbott.

Thompson took him deep BECAUSE he didn't stand with him. Smart move on Thompson's part.

Unless they match him with only shitty strikers with bad chins, everyone who saw that fight will be taking him down. He's done, his limitations have been exposed for all to see.

Laugh all you want. Gina Carano is better than Kimbo. What exactly does Kimbo do that is impressive in any way? Carano has good Muy Tai and good BJJ. Kimbo has street fighting. That is all. She is far more well rounded. It's not even close.

If you just don't like womens MMA, that's fine but she is skilled no doubt.

Exactly, the Gina fight was horrendous skillwise, at one point, Young kind of turned her back on Gina for at least a good 2 seconds during an exchange and Gina couldn't even capitalize on it, horrible

I started watching MMA far before I started boxing, far before the Tuffer's like you came along and were proven to be pure propaganda tools who's "opinion" is simply the regurgitated one of some other person, far probably someone on the zuffa payroll

We'e not even talking about UFC here, so what the fuck are you even talking about? I guarantee you I have watched MMA at least as long as you have. Go back to sherdog and post some "Fail" pictures or something.

Gina Carano showed more skill than Kimbo did on Saturday. That is where this all started. If you want to debate it, let's do this. What did Kimbo do that impressed you more than Carano? Pulled some ridiculously shitty guard only to end up in under Thompson taking 50 unanswered elbows? You talk about Gina's opponent turning her back and Gina not capitalizing? Well Kimbo had Thompson hurt in every round and needed the refs help to get the stoppage. Yet you say Gina sucks and you're falling for the Kimbo hype? lol You're ridiculous.
