..... I guess they will have a built in excuse when the next show on CBS doesn't do as good. The truth is I noticed a lot of people weren't really that happy with the show. The truth is the first show gets a lot of curiosity viewers, Elite will fall off after that. Oh and it won't have much of an effect on Cotto-Margarito because as has been mentioned it's a Mexican against a Rican. It has a built in audience.
Cung Le could headline. I would love to see him do what he did to Shamrock to someone else again. That was a great fight IMO.
They need to fight again. It was a decent fight but Shamrock fought like a complete idiot. He wanted to "prove" he could stand with Cung.
Cung Le isn't going to match Kimbo's numbers, though. From all accounts I've read, Elite XC has lost a ton of money - in the tens of millions - their first two years. So, despite the ratings for one show, they need a lot more than that because their Showtime dates aren't doing it and I don't think Cung Le is the answer. I'm not sure Frank Shamrock is either. Tito Ortiz would be a huge name, but he's on the decline and would probably cost a sizeable amount, especially if Affliction is serious in him as well.
Cung Le admitted Shamrock gets the best of him on the ground and he gets the best of Shamrock standing. These guys are very familiar with eachother. Shamrock didn't even try, at one point he could have taken Cung's back and he just let go.
Did he also admit that Shamrock can't take him down? Le actually has a good wrestling background, Shamrock don't. It doesn't matter how good you are on the ground if you can't take the other guy down. If they fight again the fight will look exactly the same.
We'll have to just wait and see. I'm sure the fight will happen. For now, we'll have to agree to disagree.
According to what they announced on the Showtime broadcast, the next CBS EliteXC show on July 26 will feature a Smith-Lawler rematch as the main event. Good choice in my opinion.
