I've been saying this for years, the reason why Jones lost his edge in boxing was killing himself trying to get back down to 175. Back then people were saying I was making excuses for RJJ. It doesn't take rocket science to know this, but seems like the hate for an athlete plauges more then logic with some people on these message boards.

You can read the rest at Boxingtalk interview is very informative.

That was a great interview. It would have been a good move on Oscars part to hire Mackie if he did fight Floyd a second time.

I believe that ESPN had originally intended for "the Sweet Science" documentary to air prior to the Jones Ruiz fight but for some reason delayed it as a result a lot of people missed it.

It's a shame because in addition to being a great documentary, it really gave a lot of insight to not only the whole weight issue but also Roy's mentality. It really showed that Roy understood the importance of having a mental edge over a fighter and that boxing is as much of a mental war as it is a physical one. (This is part of the reason IMO why after losing his 'aura of invincibility' Roy has been more or less done as a fighter.)

After the weigh in, like the interview stated, Roy was laughing at the fact that he weighed in at 193. You could tell Roy WANTED Ruiz to believe that he only weighed in the 190s when in reality he was closer to the 200-210lb range. At one point he basically laughs and says to the camera (and I paraphrase) "When I hit that motherfucker on the chin he's gonna think 'Daaaamn that motherfucker aint no 190!" Another thing that I found funny was that he also mentioned that he was happy cause for once in his life he could actually eat french fries

shilstone is a physical trainer not a miracle worker.

jones jr was coming into light heavy fights at almost 190, and he clearly looked bulked up goin into the ruiz fight.

    b double o, b double who???????
