Mikkel Kessler: "If Joe Calzaghe Won't, I'll Fight Pavlik" - Boxing News http://www.boxingscene.com/?m=show&id=14476
I don't see Arum going for this right now. There's no reason for them to take this fight instead of just going the Rubio and Abraham (if he beats Miranda) route if the Calzaghe fight doesn't materialize. It would seem to a SureFire FOTY candidate going into it, though.
I like them both, but I truly believe that Kessler will beat Kelly. Hopefully it happens, but I have a feeling instead we'll see Kelly fight the likes of Rubio or Mayorga.
Kessler is gonna fight RuBiOGUS and then some other scrub. He's not looking for anything tough right now.
Kelly said in an interview that he doesnt see a fight w/Abraham happening. If Pav rejects Kessler's challenge and fights overmatched Rubio or Mayorga, I'll begin to get annoyed with Kelly. Theres NO EXCUSE for him not to fight Abraham, or Kessler.
I hadn't read that. Yeah, I agree with that assessment. If the Calzaghe fight doesn't happen, and he doesn't fight Abraham or someone near that caliber then it's time to criticize. I am interested to see Lorenzo for the first time next weekend to see what he might bring to the table.
This would be a GREAT fight, especially at 168, because I really am yet to be convinced that Kelly's power carries the extra weight. I'd pick Kelly, but by a tiny, tiny amount. At 168, this is an absolute coin flip fight, and if Kelly were to win, it would be a SUPERB win for him. MTF
:crafty: Kessler will KILL that Slovakian bum!,.. But seriously,.. I think Pavlik is more versatile in regards to fighting inside and out,..aswell as allowing himself the freedom of utilising every shot,.. Kessler's coaching is fucking appauling, he may aswell have one of Universum's house coaches,.. he needs to add more things to that basic European style of his, otherwise he wont be able to handle the extra dimensions presented to him, as Calzaghe showed, I get the feeling that Kessler wants a more improvised style, the way he employed uppercuts to deal with Calzaghe on the inside, fucking BRIEFLY,.. the monotonous routine of his perfected, yet basic craft on the fringe, is really restricting his potential for a very complete and highly formidable offense, Kessler's got some pretty rapid guns.
In round four, when Mikkel was landing and unloading uppercuts on Calzaghe's chin, I was certain he was gonna win that fight. He has the tools to beat Pavlik, but can he utilize them... :dunno: MTF
Cool, I hope it happens. Pavlik machine by KO. Kessler hasn't got the versatility, the extra gears, and smarts or the NUTS to beat Pavlik. By the way explosive - fair point on the other thread about Andrade. I keep forgetting Kessler beat Andrade with ease. Excellent win, Andrade is a good fighter.
Calzaghe's concerntration seriously fluctuates to extremes in the ring, like just some of the most stupidest things he did against both Kessler and Hopkins,... he tried to outslug Kessler with these slappy windmills from the outside, , just before the uppercut round I think,..if he learned anything watching the Andrade fight, he should have fucken known that Kessler is capable of landing furious 9 punch combinations on the button,..:: but he learned the hard way by being BLOWN into the ropes almost immediatley,... then against Hopkins,.. who is typically in fine stinking form, just backing up,..backing up,.. waiting for Calzaghe to walk into range,..and Calzaghe leaps in there throwing slaps thinking,.. all I gotta do is go forward and outwork him, he cant beat me throwing 8 punches a round... ......../ down on his arse.
Pavlik is a machine and he will rape Kessler I know Kessler is a decent fighter and all but in all seriousness here.. Pavlik will make him appear as a drunken dish washer in there.. I mean just beat him up like he is not even a pro fighter..
Kessler ain't got no belt so this fight makes zero sense right now. Pavlik's schedule is already set. Maybe next year when Kessler has won his belts back, but not right now.
I'd pick kessler but you never know how boxers are going to deal with Pavlik's power. I don't know if Kessler can handle Pavlik's power. If he can handle Pavlik's power punches then he just might win. Otherwise it's lights out.
Great fight and I hope it happens and Pavlik will pull this one out. However for that claim that if Pavlik does not take this fight that they will be annoyed with him why? The dude makes 160 with ease. Hell when he fought Taylor at the catchweight he came into the fight at 164 instead of at the contracted weight of 166. Now if they agree to fight at a catchweight then I say Pavlik should take the fight. But for him to move up a full 8lbs to fight against a cat that ain't done shit in his career is whack. Hell why won't Kessler move up and fight cats in the 175lb division? Better yet why ain't chasing Joe for a rematch. I'll Holla 500
Kelly is a big ass middleweight and easily a natural 168 pounder. Kessler would hold NO size advantage at all over him.
Wow people are really underrestimating Kessler in this fight. What about Kessler's power? Lets not pretend that Taylor didnt have Pavlik all bout out, and Kessler is a more powerful, FAAAR more accurate puncher than Taylor. If he gets Kelly hurt like that, it'd likely be over for Pavlik. If anyone gets stopped in this fight it'll be Pavlik, not Kessler. Kessler has become very underrated. Either that, or Pavlik is starting to become overrated.
The thing that worries me from a pro Kessler point of view, is,.. that he seems to have passed the chin test up to this point,... but did Calzaghe reveal a possible glass body?... If that body is glass, Pavlik's going to rub that pink lamp a little bit.
Absolutely right. If this fight happens, especially at 168, it would be an absolute pick 'em in my eyes. There is so very little difference in their respective abilities that you could make an equally compelling argument for either man. Would be a fantastic, barnstorming fight... MTF
