This would coincide with a number of Ike Ibeabuchi threads.

    I can imagine this one:

"Does Holyfield have any chance against Tyson?"

    or

"In what round will Tyson knock Holyfield out?"

It will be cool in 50 years time or so you can access the posts that we are making today. Websites and forums come and go etc... and many ancient threads don't survive upgrades....but if we are able to access historical internet threads in the future, it would revoltutionise the way we perceive boxing history.

Fighters from previous generations are often mythicalised on the back of largely anectdotal evidence which can conveniently ignore or play down undermining details, and amplify the 'amazing' aspects.

What we have on these forums is pure, of-the-moment opinion and public perspective. If such opinion remains easily tracable way way into the future, Today's boxers won't enjoy the polish that some boxing historians so nostalgically shine their boxing antics with.

I can guess Holyfield would've recieved a ton of criticism early in his first title heaywight title run. His title win over the ballooned-up Douglas, his defenses against the old-timers (Foreman and Holmes) and the much tougher than expected win against Cooper....followed by the loss to Bowe

I bet he would've been completely dismissed as an elite heavyweight after that loss.

    Definitely.

I remember that he did get some criticism then in the boxing publications, and one cover saying with every win, Holyfield loses respect.

I wouldn't knock him too much on the choice of fighting Bert Cooper though since it was Mike Tyson who pulled out of their fight with a supposed rib injury.

I wasn't being critical of the choice of Cooper. Damiani was supposed to get the assignment before him, anyways.

But Holyfield was knocked down in that fight and it wasn't a great performance from him, though it was certainly entertaining. It's always been one of my favorite fights of his to rewatch. Dokes is another one.
