The most logical choice for Floyd from a career enhancing perspective would be to take the Cotto fight.

But notice anytime Cotto was brought up, Floyd would be amazingly quiet? Cotto is no Ricky Hatton, and would've pushed Floyd to the limit (I personally think Cotto would've stopped Floyd). Now that Floyd is retired he can protect his "zero" for all of eternity knowing that he successfully ducked away from the one career defining fight that would've sealed his legacy. As it is, there will always be questions.

    Good for Floyd.

I don't buy his "retirement" at all.

    It won't last.

    Exactly...

REED Considers this More of an EXTENDED Menstrual Cycle than a "Retirement"...Sooooner or Later, Floyd'll Get OFF of his PERIOD & "Return" to Boxing....

I tend to agree- Mayweather has retired more times Kwik-Fit...

If he doesn't return, though, and Cotto beats Margarito, then it will start to look like there is a chance he really didn't fancy the Cotto fight after all. That would hurt his legacy, no doubt about it, especially if Cotto goes on to clean house at 147.

    Exactly.

If Cotto beats Margarito decisively (something Floyd was VERY hesitant to do himself), and Floyd doesn't come back, he will have a ? hanging over his career forever.

I reckon he obtained that monsterous question mark after that second Castillo fight where he ran, then never fought a name fighter again for 5 years.

Well, would you fight another name if you needed the judges to keep your "0"?

Floyd was an abused child after Castillo. He needed time to recover.

There is always going to be someone new. You can't blame someone for getting out when on top.

Their would be nothing more satisfying than to see Cotto knock Mayweather out. But in reality,Floyd would completely and utterly clown Cotto if/when they ever fight:crying:

I would agree if Floyd was in his mid-late thirties and/or looking declined in some way. Lennox Lewis is an example of a guy who looked like he was on the way down, getting a bit old and got out whilst still champion. Nothing wrong with that.

BUT, Floyd is near, if not at, his peak, still young in boxing terms, has given no obvious outwards signs of decline and has no obvious, pressing reason to quit. And Cotto has been around for a bit now, it's not like he's appeared from nowhere all of a sudden- the Cotto-Floyd fight has been THE fight to make at 147 for a while now. If Floyd gives it up now, it will hurt his legacy. People will always ask questions regarding Cotto, UNLESS Cotto gets wiped out by Margarito or A.N Other sometime real soon.

You can't blame them, but you also can't give them credit either on how you think he "would've won if they had fought".

Floyd Ducking Cotto even though Cotto has admitted he doesn't have to call him out.

Cotto doesn't ask for the fight yet Floyd has to go out of his way to fight him?

Floyd's legacy is done. Cotto's isn't! Everyone wants to see this fight but it's fuckin stupid to blame Floyd when Cotto himself doesn't ask for it.

Arum himself says he won't bother with Floyd.

stupid thread by the same pendejo as always

If PBF retires he leaves way too many questions unanswered for me to consider him any more than a great talent (as opposed to a great fighter)

I know. He's already achieved a lot. I just don't rank fighters extra high because they were smart to get out on top in/near their prime. Fighters can always do more.

A victory over Cotto would be a huge feather in the cap.

There is no legacy at 147. Cotto V Mayweather would be an amazing fight - why doesnt Floyd just man up. He has the gun's to beat just about anyone. USE THEM.

It's pretty dissapointing one must admit, to escape welterweight now, when the winner of Cotto - Margarito will have a victory on thier resume that far exceeds any single victory Fraud has ever achieved in his entire career.

Silly Fraud groupies may retort with names likes the microscopic Jesus Chavez and the like, alderves that Cotto and Margarito could swallow whole, but I know your not one of those.

IF and mind you I'm saying IF the retirement sticks, it'll be difficult not to draw that conclusion. It is a superfight, an absolute no brainer and a promoters dream.

Fight ever happens, I'd be picking Floyd. I really hope this fight happens and not in some matchup waaay past their primes.

Floyd is an excellent fighter but there are to many holes in his CV IMO. After Cotto beats the shit out of Margarito, he will be without doubt the man at welter weight something you could never say about Floyd - It's a shame really.

    I bet Cotto whups Marg..

then Cotto whups DLH (stopping him)

then Floyd comes out of "retirement" and whups Cotto

The longer PBF waits the more this would favor Cotto. UNless Cotto starts having trouble making 147. I think PBF knows Cotto has reached his peak and is waiting for some sort of weakness. I dont know.

I don't think that he would care too much, actually.
But this is a boxing message board, & it's the kind of thing that gets discussed.
