And the NEW WBC lightweight champion is Manny Pacquaio of the Phillipines who goes to 47-3-2 (36 KOs).

David Diaz of Chicago falls to 34-2 (17 KOs).

True. Just when I was thinking, "Why Manny isn't more aggressive? He seems just content enough to jab his way to a 12 round decision..." then comes that silly short left punch that finishes Diaz reign. Oh, well...:dunno:

He was well prepared don´t forget that Diaz called himself a great fighter for losing to Erik Morales. You need to get up for the great fighters, not for guys like JMM. :hammert::hammert:

Arum gets Pacquiao another belt, against a guy who struggled to defeat a cadaver named Erik Morales. Should be interesting to see what Bob has in store next for Manny.

That was an impressive win. Manny started at flyweight, and just beat the absolute fuck out of a genuine lightweight who's campaigned at 140. Diaz is durable too, and manny just smashed him.

So what if he lost to Morales? Morales is an all time great, even if he is shot, there is no shame in losing to him, just in the same way as if shot Roy pulled out a good performance, there would be no shame in losing to him.

For his first fight at lightweight, Diaz was not a bad fight.

I believe Pacman is a great fighter BUT I would have liked to have seen him fight either Valero or Guzman before he left 130. Two undefeated young guns. Maybe at 135??? :dunno:

Forgive me, I wasn't impressed. It was a good performance but it was against David Diaz.

And I'm sorry, did you see his performance against Morales? He was horrid...Morales was just...ugh.

Bottom line, if you can barely get by a shot Morales, you're gonna get KTFO by Manny Pacquiao.

So who cares if he lost to Morales...a SHOT Morales?

I do. Now ask me if I care that Pacquiao just beat an average fighter. And some idiots actually shelled out $50 for this sparring session.

Manny looked pretty sharp but Kenneth has a point, lets not over-fixate on the paper title and Diaz's grit and determination, he is quite shit...and I would barely put this ahead of Pac's Solis win, the reason I would is the jump in weight...Looking forward to seeing him against a real player at 135 next time round, will Arum allow it to happen? or will he be matching Pac a little softer given the prospect of hatton in 2009?

Well I didn't think Diaz was an amazing fighter of course not, and the fact is last night he looked SHIT, he looked borderline inept, and a bum. But most of that was Manny's doing. I'm sure if Diaz fought someone as basic as Juan Diaz, he'd look alright, and give a good account of himself.

But even so, he was a solid enough lightweight, no world beater, but a decent fighter, and for a FIRST fight at lightweight for a guy that started at flyweight, I can't complain.

It was a good lightweight test.

He could have done what many other fighters do, and pick a guy in the weightclass that was actually an aging featherweight that's moved up to lightweight, but no, he fought a career lightweight, and one that campaigned at 140 as an amateur.

He shouldn't have gone straight for Casamayor, or Campbell etc.

Let me reiterate, this is a guy that fought much of his career at flyweight, it was a very real possibility that lightweight would have simply been a weight too far, diaz was the perfect test fight at lightweight, and obviously he passed with flying colours.

Tye Fields got ass-raped last night too. That huge 6'9 guy who thinks he's a big deal in the world of ToughMan type fighting. Steps in there with a B class pro in Monte Barret and gets smashed in less than 60 seconds. LOL!

The guy was always a bum. Juan Diaz is basic? Okay, I´ll be gracious and sum up David Diaz´ skill set: He has a a big forehead.

Monte Barret is more of a D class pro, which makes it all the more hilarious.

    Xplosiveness in its purest form.

That said, Fields was an accident waiting to happen and I am surprised he didn't get whacked out much earlier. He was very easy to hit. He should have developed a Valouev-like style to be even mildly succesful. This was funnier though:bears:

I'm sorry, but would Juan Diaz have destroyed David Diaz like that? Answer... hell no!

Manny can have success vs this crop of lightweight. Years ago when Castillo, Floyd, and Chico were at thier primes at 135, Manny never woulda even CONSIDERED moving up to lightweight, as those 3 guys woulda ass raped him.

But Juan Diaz is simply not a very good fighter. He IS basic, too basic to beat Manny IMO. I once thought that he might beat Pac based on size alone, but it appears that Manny carries 135 well. Everything else basically favors Pacman. I think Manny's speed and power would overwhelm, and even intimidate the baby cow, who's there to be hit, and who doesnt have the power to hurt Manny.

Monte Barret is no B class fighter. B class fighters IMO are guys who are very good, but fall just short of being elite. Barret isnt a very good fighter. He's an average gate keeper, and an OLD one at that.

At least, JMM followed him there, so he has at least one big challenge at LW. Still, I consider guys like Diaz, Kats, Casa, Campbell and Guzman way bigger challenges than David Diaz, who has no timing at all, is slower than a CW and punches like a flyweight.

But I must admit I was impressed by Pac, I didn't think he would litterally destroy Diaz like that. He seemed as fast and powerfull as he was at 122-130.

I would have liked to see him take on the best guys at 130 though, I know there was not a lot of money but there was still some intriguing matchups left to be made.

El, what the fuck is it with you and Juan Diaz? You seem to think he is some sort of elite fighting machine.

Diaz is basic personafied. How is he NOT basic? All he does is come forward and throw slapping punches over and over again. There is no depth to his style, not much variety, and not much skill.

He gets by basically on stamina, workrate, and toughness.
