Not often do I buy into the excuse bandwagon, but IMO this is a cut and dry scenario. Torres cold cocks Holt for the first KD, though not hurt, when Holt gets up he is certainly wobbled by a glancing shot of some kind and dropped again. At this point he is hurt, then he gets up, gets driven to the ropes, and swings a hail mary flurry, and then lands the best shot of the night so far...a vicious head butt that sends Torres head into a 360 degree swirl, where he falls back, legs wobbly buckling into the ropes, and Holt capitalizes with a vicious KO. Absolutely phenominal knock out. A few points, Holt's Headbutt was not intentional, and since it wasn't "seen" by Jay Nady (who was standing right there) credit shouldn't be taken away from him. However, without the headbutt, he was in bad shape, it was a timely break for him, and if I was Torres Id be pissed.
I watched the fight just now. Crazy round. Definite headbutt and I'm not sure why the announcers didn't pick it up at all. They keep calling it a body shot. :dunno: Still, it wasn't intentional and I'm not sure there's anything Nady could have done about it because it was so in the flow with the action. There should definitely be a rematch. Oooops, ok they just mentioned the butt. :bears:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dtu3rdh1I9c Not great quality. Inconclusive but I doubt it was any thing but a headbutt. You don't react that way from a bodyshot.
there was a side-view on the showtime broadcast that showed the headbutt and its effects in slow-mo. most brutal headbutt in awhile.
best 1 rounder i've seen in a long time. torres deserved to get KOed after trying to pull a terry norris.
That Headbutt was Brutal Nady should have stepped in immediatley!Oh yeah he didn't see it yet he was right there???:dunno:. Immediate rematch should be given to Torres without a doubt no questions asked.
This is why I'm glad I post on this site. It's a sanity check. I was yelling at the TV that it was a brutal headbutt, not a "liver shot", that sent Torres reeling. The commentators couldn't hear me and they never picked-up on it on their own. Thank goodness others saw it the same way. The headbutt ended the fight in my opinion.
:bears:100% agree look at the effect of the HEADBUT he was already done look at his legs there gonw, he got hit with a HeadBut that made Holyfield and Hopkins proud.
The announcers were commenting on the body shot Holt landed that came before the headbutt. I admit, I kept looking for a second punch as well, stunned that they'd miss the headbutt. But the body shot caused Torres to lean forward, at which point Holt's head slammed into his. That said, I find it funny that so many people are bitching about the headbutt, yet Torres himself chalked up the loss to being careless/reckless and getting caught.
Actually that's only part of what he had to say... “I had him, he was in my hands. I got careless, he caught me,” said Torres after the fight. “A head butt caught me and made me off-balance and I never saw the last punch.” http://www.thesweetscience.com/boxing-article/6040/kendall-holt-wins-nuke-fest/
The point being that he's accepting the loss, much as he didn't want to hear any excuses from Holt following the first fight. If nothing else, at least he's consistent in that regard.
There needs to be a rematch to the rematch. However, the way Torres was out he might need to take a long time to rest. I mean dude was sleeping on the rope. Hell had they not laid him down he still might be there sleeping. I say early 2009 is when this fight needs to take place. That way Torres can have a chance to clear those cob webs. Is this round of the year? I'll Holla 5000
Wow - I have watched boxing for years, and I don't think I've ever seen a headbutt land THAT precisely, right on the tip of the chin - and be that determinant to a fight. Precise, and HARD. Torres didn't see it and Holt was moving his weight entirely to his left. Clocked Torres like a punch, on the chin and at an angle - except much harder. Definitely the HB was a huge factor. It's rare to see it that clearly. Peace.
Maybe they couldn't see it from their side of the ring. It was only the replay from camera across the ring that you could really see the headbutt clearly...and perhaps when they were running through the replays at first they were concentrating on the body punch...whatever the case they dd eventually mention it.
There was the skinny white kid that got knocked out from a similar headbutt/clash earlier in the decade. Someone will know what I'm talking about. I think it later got changed, but it started out as a KO.
Benn's flying head-butt into McClellan has to take the cake as the worst in history given the condition Gerald now finds himself in. There's no doubt it was due to Benn's human missile blow.
the only other case I've seen like this was Cauthen vs Frank. Frank was declared the winner but the ruling was later overturned. Cupey
