Actually, blacks tend to be more racist then whites, but that's an argument for another day, and not for the boxing area.

Personally, I don't think Floyd is racist, but instead, has a dangerous mix of arrogance and ignorance. His arrogance doesn't allow him to understand why the entire world doesn't love him, and his ignorance blames that on racism.

Merchant was always respectful of Mayweather as a boxer.

He made snide remarks here and there, like making comments about Floyd's domestic abuse cases (picture Merchant making remarks about DLH's numerous rape allegations or Gatti's numerous alcohol-related arrests), but was always respectful of Floyd in the ring. When Mayweather argued with Merchant after the Baldomir fight, Merchant was the one who was least critical during the fight, and saying "no room for perfection" when the final bell rang and people booed.

 

merchant has become more biased as he has gotten older.

I've heard him refer to mayweather as "a fucking peon" and it certainly shows in his commentary of some fights.

he still isn't nearly as biased against mayweather as is steward.

 

What I think of Merchant is that he is typical of a lot of modern-day sports fans and media types in that he is resentful of the amont of bank that a lot of these guys make today in about all of the sports. Whether it's racial against Blacks because of their predominance in certain sports is up for debate but i do think there's some resentment.

He was one of Mosley's biggest supporters, and his "so what?" comments were really about being disappointed he hadn't capitalized on the DLH win more. He was also certainly one of Whitaker's biggest supporters.

Merchant understood the attempts DLH/Arum made to make him more marketable to Mexican/Mexican American fans. He complimented mariachi music before he said it sucked in that setting (in part because it took away from the champion that night...Whitaker).

Criticizing aspects of urban culture isn't the same as disliking an entire race or being racist.

Now, maybe he's not allowed to say that because he's an affluent elderly white male.
