Thompson needs to let his hands go. WTF is he thinking. Wlad is not going to run into something, you need to make him back straight up and then hammer him with the follow up.

In recent fights, he's gotten wlad to fight more like vitali which is a safer, harder-to-beat style than he used to have. Probably that was wlad's idea, though. Tonight...not so much.

Yeah right. Wlad is a fuckin bum in a division ruled by scrubs. He´s still open, if you have the speed and power to throw a fastball through the middle. Thompson is a weak armpuncher.

 

Once again, Wlad wins 8 rounds out of 10 against a top-5 contender and blasts him out and all he gets is bashing. Style wins championships apparently

Thompson, like Brock, made it awkward for Klitschko early on but once he hit the wall around the 6th round it was pretty much all Klitschko who I think is getting better and more comfortable at winning ugly. He didn't do much with his jab in the fight because of how defensive Thompson was, so he threw a lot of right hand leads, and more punches to the body than usual and even brought some uppercuts after it.

For all those criticizing Klitschko's last two performances, let's remember that as good as Lennox Lewis was he never fought a southpaw...and Klitscho's faced two in a row.

 

Agreed it was another sloppy fight by old standards. The problem is that the guys are this big and thus their fights are slower and they look more clumsy. The flip side of the coin of course is that smaller men just can't compete anymore

 

Of course they do, as long as guys like Valuev, Ruiz and Thompson are considered top 5. Do you honestly believe Wlad would last five rounds with Lewis or Holyfield. He hit almost nothing, but air and gloves in the first five rounds, mouth already open, but nobody in this division possesses any offensive tools. Go ahead name a single fighter, who has offensive skills and power? ONE !!! Peter, Brock, Thompson, Byrd, Brewster, Ruiz, Valuev?

Chagaev, Virchis with his power, Haye or Povetkin are interesting fights. The rest is garbage. Wlad will never fight any of them voluntarily. If Povetkin does improve his guard, he´ll put Wlad away. :mj:

 

So how did you score it, did you have Thomspon ahead? Was he close of winning at any point? Was he not top-5? Was he not knocked out? What is the problem with that statement. Wlad might not look flashy, sexy or whatever you prefer but all he has done in years is winning, usually very clearly so. To me, that is not a bad thing

 

Well actually it is if it's mind numbingly boring to watch.

This is boxing, it's supposed to be entertaining and exciting.

 

Yes, I would pick Wlad over Holyfield in a fight that would look better than this one. Holyfield was easy to hit and he was there to be hit: suidice against a bomber like Wlad
