I guess no one really cares that this fight isn't happening in October.

Joe Calzaghe Injured, Roy Jones Fight Pushed Back
    By Rick Reeno

MaxBoxing/BoxingScene.com was informed by a reliable source that Joe Calzaghe has suffered a hand injury and will not be able to move forward with his September 20th bout with Roy Jones Jr. at Madison Square Garden. The fight was going to be carried on HBO pay-per-view.

At the present, the fight is said to be postponed to a November date. There is no word if the fight will still be held in New York's Madison Square Garden. There have been whispers of the event being held off due to a pending legal action by Frank Warren against Calzaghe, but one source told me - "that's not true, the guy is really hurt."

Figures. Joe doesn't fight more than once a year usually. This would've been a violation of that trend.

And RJJ? Well, he's always looking to put off his next loss in a big fight, isn't he?

Personally I think it's better for the sport, even if the wrong fight got postponed.

What's fucked up, though, is all of the juggling Golden Boy, HBO and Top Rank did to tidy up things was really all for naught. David Haye was rumored to suffer a "minor arm injury" which conveniently freed up Oct. 18 for Pavlik-Hopkins, which in turn forced Mosley-Mayo to move up two weeks and off PPV.

Shoving Calzaghe-Jones a week after Casa-Marquez made no sense. Even if you had to flood the PPV market, a more sensible schedule would've been:

    Sep 6 - Diaz/Katsidis HBO
Sep 13 - Casa/Marquez PPV (even though it belongs on HBO)
    Sep 20 - Shane/Mayorga HBO
    Sep 27 - Pavlik/Hopkins or Calzaghe/Jones PPV
Oct 4 - HBO Boxing After Dark
Oct 11 - David Haye HBO
    Oct 18 - Calzaghe/Jones or Pavlik/Hopkins PPV

Take a break through the World Series like they always do, then reload in November

yeah no shit. Like I said, I'm glad at least one show was postponed, though if HBO wants to maximize revenue on Casa-JMM, they'd now bump it back a week rather than still compete with Showtime's card (Campbell-Guzman, whenever it finds a home)

    Correction Brother REED...

This DELAYS the enhancement of Roy's legacy by two months.

Calslappy's bitches have three more months to enjoy the hype before it comes crashing down in a blaze of glory.

I wonder whether Calzaghe's punching technique might contribute to his hand/wrist problems.

God I hope RJJ beats the shyte out of Joe. RJJ's ego alone may do a number on the less experienced Joe (less experienced when it comes to PPV events in the U.S. such as this one).

It also gives HBO another two months to attempt to reclassify Joe Calzaghe Enterprises as a subsidiary of Golden Boy Promotions.

Rumors (well, sort of) of the fight possibly relocating to the UK:

    http://www.boxingscene.com/?m=show&id=15052

Joe Calzaghe vs. Roy Jones Jr. Heading To The UK?
    By Mark Vester

As many already know from the news breaker posted on MaxBoxing/BoxingScene.com, Calzaghe suffering a right hand injury that has forced the postponement of his September 20 bout with Roy Jones Jr. The fight was scheduled to take place at New York's Madison Square Garden.

The immediate word has the fight being rescheduled to November, but many in the industry feel the only way a November date will work is if the fight is heading out to the UK.

On November 22, Ricky Hatton will challenge IBF junior welterweight champion Paulie Malignaggi in Las Vegas. Due to the heavy traveling costs involved for UK fight fans, it's doubtful that many of them will travel to America twice in the same month. A good percentage will only travel to one fight or the other, especially with the holidays being just around the corner.

The postponement leaves the promoters, who are Jones and Calzaghe, with a serious issue to consider with the final date and venue selection.

This would definitely constitute the "real" reason for the postponement if it's true. We all know how important it is to Joe for him to fight in his home country where he receives preferential treatment and where it's damn near impossible to knock him out due to the referee's willingness to let him tie his shoes, make a phone call, or have his jaw iced before a count of 10 is reached.
