from fightews:

No less than Golden Boy Promotions vice president for matchmaking Eric Gomez believes Manny Pacquiao presents a tough challenge for Oscar De La Hoya.
In an interview with the daily Philippine radio show “Sports Chatâ€￾, Gomez said they’ve been telling De La Hoya that Pacquiao has the tools to hurt the six-time world champion.
“We’re talking to him and telling him it’s a dangerous fight. Manny can really hurt you and why do you want to do that. In fact, I myself, personal, as a matchmaker, I feel that a Miguel Cotto fight is easier. I feel Miguel Cotto’s style suits Oscar better,â€￾ Gomez told this writer who hosts the show aired over DZSR Sports Radio.

Funny how they're selling Cotto short and exagerating Pacquiao. The hypejob has started.

Just curous, what weight class will this fight be on if it happens? Last time I checked DelaRican is @154 and Pacman is under 140.

They're even trying to make a fight with Sergio Mora look more lucrative than with Cotto!
“Having two L.A. guys at Dodger Stadium would be bigger than a Cotto fight,â€￾ says De La Hoya. “It would be an L.A. thing to have 55,000 people. That would be amazing. It all goes back to Richard (Schaefer) doing his homework and seeing if that is the biggest possible fight for me.â€￾

Pacquiao is built no different than Mosley was at 135 so maybe he can carry the weight. Of course, Mosley had some 147 fights first.
.
I think Oscar goes against his wife's wishes and fights Cotto. I think Cotto is better suited to Oscar (well, ignoring Pacq's size handicap) because he is slower and more deliberate and dlh can run around and peck away like he did vs Tito.
and
If Cotto beats Margarito, and Oscar beats Cotto and retires, it leaves him going out on top, even beating a guy that his most-recent conqueror Floyd avoided. Beating Pacq does very little no matter how he beats him. Losing to Pacq is a big detriment, not just to legacy, but to self-worth.

DLH should've just stuck with "I promised my wife I wouldn't fight any Puerto Ricans".

Right now it sounds like "I promised my wife I wouldn't fight anybody tough".

I can't believe some people buy that crap (Hello miKE!)... Come on Pac is great, certainly greater than Cotto, but he's 5'5"! He has never been hit by a 147 pounder, let alone an elite one. He only had 1 fight at 135, against a guy that didn't really possess a size advantage over him, and some people are ready to believe he's a bigger threat than a guy that has beaten pretty good opposition at 147! That's crazy...

 Cotto would brutalize DLH....cave his ribcage in...make DLH either quit on his stool..or roll around the canvas in pain...

and DLH at this point in time stepping in the ring with Cotto would be life altering fight....DLH life will be worthless after the beating Cotto put on him...

of course cotto is a bigger threat because you can't ignore the size disparity...i was only pointing out that ignoring the size difference, pacq would be a bigger threat for oscar...
.
and oscar isn't an elite 147 lber anymore

I'm not an Oscar fan, but it's amazing that people question his choice of opponents after a resume that includes:

Ruelas
Hernandez
Gonzalez
Whitaker
Chavez
Camacho
Quartey
Vargas
Trinidad
Mosley X 2
Hopkins
Mayorga
Mayweather

Mother fucker is always ducking tough opponents.

Most of his fights since he beat Vargas have been farces. But you gotta love this: two lightweights back to back. How do you get away with it, Oscar? And lets not forget the way he sticks it in the ass of HBO and fight fans as a promoter. The more things change...

Just seeing the name 'De La Hoya' truelly makes one very ill these days, he sure is living the American dream, I wish the press, would do real boxing fans a favour, and fuck him off from any headlines, he's as honourable as Dick Cheney, I wish him death.

I wouldn't agree with that at all. I certainly don't think his fights since Vargas are in any way comparable with a proposed matchup with Manny Pacquiao.

Yep. He stepped up against Camacho when nobody else wanted to face him.

Ditto for Chavez.

I still can't believe DLH wanted a second go 'round with him.

27. IMDAZED

IMDAZED Undisputed Champion

Why? Still a farce. Save for the third Mosley match, I can't remember the last time he showed up. Unless beating Ricardo Mayorga was some huge feat. And he keeps getting shots.

Let's see...he lost against Sturm, half-assed his way through the "Fight of the Millenium" and I don't even know what to call his fight with Hopkins. Steve Forbes? Manny Pacquiao? Yup, sounds about right.

It's a good thing ODH plans to retire after his next fight before he squanders entirely the credibility he worked so hard to build for himself when he took on opponents like Whitaker, Trinidad and Quartey.

What's hilarious is to listen to his match-maker, Gomez, try to convince us that Pacquiao is a tougher fight for ODH than Cotto is.
