Then he better retire! Lacy is done. Taylor should wax him within 5-6 rounds, unless he carries him cause they friends.
I hope not. Just because of the shit Lacy talked after the fight, I hope the fight is still on. For ONCE in my life I'll actually root for Taylor.
Taylor will beat Lacy over the head with Hopkins arse in one hand and his enormous cock in the other.
Considering that Lacy is bigger, has never been stoppep and that Taylor couldn't stop nor really even threaten Kassim Ouma I find this a bit exrteme
:cheer: Lok please, he's black, you more than just about anyone on the forum should know this particular rule of thumb,..
What happened to Lacy's power? That's what I want to know. I wouldn't say he's done. I'd say he never was as it turns out. He did show a lot of heart though last night I thought - mentally there's no doubting his abilities. He just doesn't have the vaunting punching power it turns out that we thought he had. Not sure if he ever did and it disappeared somehow or if he was just vastly over-rated due to smart match-making early on? All I know is he's not the dangerous guy we thought he was - there to K you TFO if only you make one mistake. I'd still like to see him fight Pavlik - I think while it lasted it would be an entertaining fight.
According to a report by Chris Givens of the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, Jermain Taylor will fight Jeff Lacy this coming November 15th. Taylor and Lacy are not strangers to one another, as they are former team mates from the Olympics. The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette is citing that their sources came forward with the information late Wednesday night, and according to the publication, the site of the fight has yet to be determined. The news is coming after last night's victory for Lacy who beat Epifanio Mendoza with a 10 round majority decision. Lacy won with scores of 97-93 and 96-94 from two of the judges, while another scored it an even 95-95.
Mendoza hits harder than Taylor and he had Lacy doing the Zab Judah dance and followed up with some good shots but couldn't stop Lacy. I do not see Taylor being able to stop him at all. A wide decision win for Jermain is far more likely.
Dunno if Lacy gets stopped, unless he's totally finished. Taylor isn't a big puncher and Lacy's chin seems pretty solid.
I can't believe Lacy couldn't knock Mendoza out. Ruvulcaba damn near knocked him out. WTF? Lacy needs to work on relaxing more in the ring. I think he's too tight in there. He needs to set his punches up better. He obviously is strong and throws with bad intentions but it's like his opponents are always on the look out and can handle whatever he dishes out. He needs to mix in some light shots and work on his accuracy. He just throws as hard as he can and if you watch his punches rarely land on the chin - almost always on the head or face. He's got potential I think to become a much better fighter than he is today. That's my opinion anyways. He should watch Rocky Lockridge fight - that guy knew how to mix in hard shots when they counted and land em where they needed to land, while occupying his opponent with lighter shots.
lacy's no longer world class, but taylor hasn't beaten a real middleweight since...well, that depends on how you scored the two hopkins fight and the winky fight. it's still a suitable fight for taylor take w/o a tune-up against a bum like brian vera. afterall, he himself is coming off two consecutive losses and is moving up in weight.
This is so true. All those jr middles JT spent his career fighting probably hurt him when it came time to face the hard punches of Pavilik. Lucky for JT Lacy doesn't hit nearly as hard as looks like he could.
They call him "left hook," and his shoulder just got operated on (big scar where his chest ties into the shoulder in the front)...nobody has said it, but maybe that left hook has lost it because of whatever injury that was. I didn't think the his opponent was rocked in that round the announcers thought he was...didn't look like he could hurt that guy at all to me.
Here we go again, Hopkins is glorified, is "put on a list with all the great middleweights", for victories over fighters half his size, but his father, Jermaine, gets bashed?... Double standards as usual,...
Hopkins only fought a couple guys moving up. Basically only Oscar and Tito. Who were both elite lighter weight fighters. Other than that who are all these small guys?
Yup. For all that Jeff is effectively done and dusted as a top level fighter, his chin cannot seriously be questioned. For all that Calzaghe beat the shit out of him, he couldn't stop him. Jeff clearly has an excellent chin- there is no way that I can see that Taylor would be able to KO him. MTF
I agree but I also would like to see Lacy concentrate on body work. Heck if he attack the body like he goes after the head I think that he would have better success. I'll Holla 5000
Mendoza might have heavier hands than Taylor, but JT is MUCH faster than Mendoza. Speed kills. I dont see the shot Lacy being able to handle the onslaught that nearly KO'd Pavlik in the 2nd round. I think theres a very good chance Taylor can stop Lacy if he TRIES. But he probably wont try for a KO... because he'll probably be gun shy, and also because they're friends. Taylor jabs his way to a wide UD. A stoppage wouldnt surprise me though.
Every opponent he has ever faced, I think Tarver and 1 other fighter had an inch height advantage on him, but they weren't as musclebroad which made him larger overall.
So weight classes mean nothig now huh? Maybe we should have height divisions instead. The fact is Hopkins was a career middleweight who fought actual MW's for the vast majority of his career.
Nup, Hopkins was a career Lightheavyweight, started there infact, who unfortunately like alot of fighters these days, (including a couple of my favourites), have genetics that cut weight exceptionally well compared to the average fighters two divisions above them who are of the same size. 'Weight divisions' are outdated and thoroughly bullshit in my opinion, especially weighing in 24 hours or longer before the fight,.. there should be size classifications based on calculated mass, to determine what division a fighter belongs in.
I don't think it's out of the question that Taylor knocks him out. As X mentioned Taylor is much sharper and faster than Mendoza... I feel like if mendoza hadn't have been so sloppy he would have stopped Lacy on a couple of different occasions. at the same time i dont think Taylor should be bashed if he doesn't stop him even if taylor's career is in dire need of an impressive performance
i thought kassim ouma was done pretty much after the karmazin loss, yet taylor never even came close to stopping him. unless lacy's chin is completely gone, i see another dreadful performance from taylor.
