Look how good cotto's defence and speed and accuracy were and it still wasn't enough to stop titanium head margarito.
I would speculate that this is the worst outcome for Floyd nuthuggers because Margarito now stands out as the biggest challenge at WW alongside Paul Williams and yet MW is unlikely to face either mostly for financial reasons...
Yep, I think this is the end of Fraud's career at welterweight, If Fraud were to make a comeback, he'd have the name 'Margarito' stuffed into his face once again, and he doesn't want to additionally chuck tantrums and literally bawl on the podium over the media's enquiries following Bob Arum's blow of the whistle back in mid 2006, .......it hurt Fraud very, very badly, and didn't his groupies know it....?opcorn: Fraud's Welterweight career, is officially over.
It was already over when he retired.:: Oh, congratulations, Cow. Finally one of your picks won in a major upset.
It's not the first time he's retired ofcourse, did I have to tell you that Panchita,princess-parrot? :crafty: ...and thank you, I always knew Abdullaev's reincarnated soul would come back and beat Cotto through another fighter.
dsimon writes: First off: Pascals makes a great point. I think Cotto is a tougher fight for Mayweather in many respects. I think Cotto beats Floyd. Floyd would tie Margarito up and not let him get off inside as much. It would be a boring fight but I think Floyd, assuming he didn't look like Cotto for his weight, would neutralize a few things Margarito could do against Cotto. I see it as a boring fight where Floyd sneaks in punches and ties up before geting hit.
I like Mayweather in this one...Floyd unlike Cotto knows how to buy time and control the pace with clinching and turning. Cotto really needs to learn how to clinch when he's hurt or gassed.
He wouldn't "Corrales" Margarito. He's faster and more fluid on his feet and has better stamina than Cotto, but he used Corrales like a yo-yo...that ain't happening at all with Margarito. I don't think Mayweather would ever step into the ring with him, because he ain't getting his respect in that fight and he'd be a "constant retreater" just like Cotto was.
I'm a Floyd fan and I think he edges Margarito but no way Jose. The only thing Corrales and Margarito share is height, other than that... Corrales needed to set up to throw, Margaro doesn't, Floyd was actually stronger than Corrales, Margaro will look 2 divisions bigger easily, he's much bigger. Most import, Floyd was able to hurt Corrales, he won't even come close against Margarito. On the other said, Corrales was much faster, with better technique. Just keeping it honest.
If Mayweather now says he'd be willing to fight Maragarito, if I were Tony I'd turn him down. Serves him right, especially with a DeLaHoya fight possibly on the horizon. He would make just as much money in a more winnable, higher-profile fight.
A Mayweather-Margarito fight will be signed by the End of October. Take that to the bank!! Sig bet with ANYONE on this!!
Assuming Floyd comes back and is what he was when he retired, this will be a boring fight like the Baldomir fight. Floyd will not run out of gas and lay on the ropes. He will throw single shots and take off. Margarito will land in single digits in every round.
You would be a very stupid man then, Payton. Margaro has not much to lose against Mayweather and a lot to win. Hell, even if he loses he won't get much punishment and the big fights will still be there because well, he lost TO Mayweather. Don't believe DLH is gonna fight him.
Just a possibility (probably a longshot after last night), but if the Oscar fight is still on the table then Margarito would be a fool to take Mayweather instead of DeLaHoya.
I don't think so. DLH wants anything but a grueling war for his last fight, it's clear he won't push for that fight. A Mayweather bout offers the same kind of money plus the opportunity to beat the best fighter of the last years, if he wins, he's huge... he loses, just another guy who couldn't quite make it against the unlikable genius.
Let's be honest cotto is not a fraud. He just fought a guy that is a monster for that weight class. Very big fighter and dwarfed cotto. Cotto is obviously the better boxer marg. was just to big and strong for him to deal with.
Would we see mayweather vs chico again? Probably not because of the difference in the chin, but mayweather could box circles around him.
Fraud. A B fighter masquerading as elite. It is the definition of a fraud. Margarito is a fun fighter, a fighter I root for, but he is all heart and will, light on talent. He DOMINATED a supposedly elite fighter and made him quit.
Well who exactly do you see as an elite fighter? What's your definition. In your opinion I'm pretty sure Ali, Floyd, Sugar Ray, Tito, RJJ, Mosley are all overrated nonelite fighters. Just correct me if I'm wrong.
Mayweather will run and putshot for 12 rounds. He's gonna tie Marg up frequently and It's gonna be ugly as hell. I see Margarito getting hit by flush leads and check hooks only to smile and plod along. Unlike Cotto, Floyd isn't going to lay on the ropes and give Margarito opportunities, if he does he's just gonna turn his body and roll like he did vs DLH, then tie up or use his lateral movement to get the hell outa there. Margarito is simply awful at cutting off the ring and Mayweather will use that to his advantage Mayweather via UGLY, BORING UD. Stylistically I still think Cotto is the greatest threat to Mayweather.opcorn:
ALi was elite (also overrated and boring, not the greatest but elite in any era, a champion fighter) RJJ (Elite talent, not sure about career because his level of opp was pretty poor.) Floyd (elite fighter, dull aove 140, but elite) Sugar Ray(gay, boring, undisputedly elite) Tito (fuck no a fraud. A man who lost to every A level fighter he fought and by a landslide, a good fighter at absolute best) Mosely(, fuck no. A brawler with fast hands, and a retarded caveman style. A joke of a lightweight reign. A single victory over DLH and lost to every other decent fighter he fought in a landslide fashion, barely even a good fighter. He would be uncompetetive in any decent light weight or welterweight era)
when was there an era at lightweight where you could name more than 3 guys who would defeat mosley? uncompetitive? ::
The only 3 lightweights in history who Ive seen who I can say beat Shane at that weight are Duran, Whitaker, Chavez, and Pryor(since Aaron did fight at that weight for awhile). MAYBE Dejesus could have beaten him as well. Other than those guys, I have a hard time envisioning any lightweight beating Shane.
In the past I thought that Mayweather Margarito would look alot like Mayweather vs Corrales just with no stoppage. I now think that Margarito would stop Mayweather. He is much bigger and stronger then Corrales and throws such a high volume of fluid and hard combinations. Corrales vs. Clottey exposed how much the size and strength advantage of a welterweight like Margarito will give him over Mayweather. It would be like Mayweather has a BB gun and Margarito has grenade Launchers. The huge difference in strength would allow Margarito to land some serious blows when he gets Floyd backed into the ropes and I think Floyd simply wouldn't have much to offer back to discourage Margarito from attack relentlessly unless of course he literally runs away and does nothing for 12 rounds.
Duran Whitaker Chavez Pryor It is hard to answer because Mosley fought no one at lightweight. Mosely was not even a dominant welter in a weak era. Honestly, outside of his one win over DLH what makes Mosely so fucking good. HBO's hype, his bimbo smile, his retarded caveman style, the steroids, the fact that his woman puts him in check. I don't get it. Yeah he had a fuckload of defenses, AGAINST WHO. He fought no one then he beat DLH once. I thought he lost big in the re.
Noted. Vargas couldn't move his back. Wow, what a fighter. People forget Salty Shame Nosely went life and death with the cyclops the first time.
