Margarito: "I'll Beat The Champs of Puerto Rico!"

Former welterweight champion Antonio Margarito is a man on a mission. The power-puncher from Mexico has set his sights on breaking the current domination of the welterweight division by fighters from Puerto Rico. Kermit Cintron holds the IBF title, Miguel Cotto has the WBA and Carlos Quintana recently won the WBO's version of the crown.

Margarito takes on Cintron on April 12 in Atlantic City. The winner will meet Cotto in a unification bout that is slated for July.

"First, I am going to one again beat Kermit Cintrón in order to fight Miguel Cotto, beat him too, and then fight Carlos Quintana", Margarito told Primera Hora. "I have to give Cintrón credit for accepting the fight. He says that he's a different fighter from when I beat him the last time, but I'm still going to take his title. Then fight Cotto immediately, and then I can fight Quintana to make sure all of the titles are with me."

Margarito says the he's learned a lot from his close decision loss to Paul Williams in 2007 and vowed to show some of his changes in the Cintron rematch.

"I learned a lot from that fight. I didn't apply pressure from the start and I wasn't able to land the right punches. I learned my lesson and this time it's going to be different. I am coming with a lot of hunger to be champion and I am going to knock Cintrón out again," Margarito said. "Then my promoter, Bob Arum, promised us a fight with Cotto. It doesn't matter where the fight takes place, money is what talks."

Kauki, do you know if Margarito still stands by his statement that "Williams hasn't beaten anyone worth a damn"?

When I saw this I pissed in my pants at the thought of Puerto Rico and Margarito's destruction!!! The immigration song from West Side Story blaring like a nightmare song in the background....."Puerto Rico you lovely Island....." Cotto with smoke coming from his torso, fish eyed and not responsive, Cintron, in a heap cursing the Mexican Government and the Tijuana limousine service..... Kaulki you should have warnings on a thread like this!!! Some of us are prone to nightmares you know! :notallthere:

I would love to see Tito fight Margarito @160. I think this fight would sell big time. You got 2 fighters that will go toe to toe. It would be great to see Margarito fold for once:crafty:

Tito wont fold at the buffet table, so this fight aint happening.

A more likely fight is Tito-Vargas II at a catchweight of 190.

Tito is an old washed up man who has better things to do like flunk out of Cupey Alto Community College.

SANTOS???? There's some unfinished business there with Margarito. And now Santos has a belt at 154.

DLH WON't fight Margarito unless he wants to retire from a hospital bed. :nono:

If Margarito is such a bad-ass, why does he keep ducking Dzindziruk, the guy who ass-raped Margarito's daddy?

I'm sure there was immense pressure from the boxing public to skip this bullshit Cotto fight and go after Dumshitski instead. :cheer:

Who cares about pressure? Certainly not Margarito.
The fact is clear, Dzindziruk easily outclassed Santos, the guy who owns Margarito. Additionaly, Dzindziruk has WBO belt, something that's very dear to Margarito's heart, as evidenced by him holding it for years.
Wouldn't it make sense for Margarito to face Dzindziruk?

It makes sense but not money wise. Margarito, at age 30, his best choices are to hope for a DLH or Mayweather match for the $$$. I don't think either guy will fight him. Maybe a rematch with Cotto for $$$. If those fights don't materialize, I don't see anyone coming up from 140 (Hatton is wisely staying at 140) so the next move is to look for big fights at 154. If Mora looks good against Forrest, that may even be a possibiity.

So, in other words, Margarito will continue to pretend that Dzindziruk doesn't exist?

He looked pretty decent against RJ. Your lucky the man from Cupey Alto PR is semi-retired because we both know he would have knocked Margarito the fuck out!:mj:
