....been rumours of a split ever since the Mayweather fight, but that was lined due to apparent disagreements....this seems to be genuinely about Billy's health....anyone who saw 24/7 will remember the state of Billy's fingers.....he was having to take injections in order to train Hatton

Graham has been a very good servant to the sport in britain....not only with Hatton's career (in which he evolved a precocious, but very raw talent into a superstar) but with several other Manchester based fighters

Makes you wonder who they'll get as a permanent replacement. Apparently Ricky gets along with Manny Steward very well, but stylewise i don't see that as being a good match.

i don't think it should matter too much, hatton is towards the end and will maybe only have one more fight if he beats paulie.

Don't see why not. Manny can teach him to clutch and hold just as well as Graham. :dunno:

Manny likes every fighter to sit back and work off the jab. Not exactly something well suited to Hatton.

Agreed. Hell I wouldnt be surprised if he retired after the Paulie fight, esp if he loses(which is a real possibility). He was supposed to fight Manny, but now it looks as though Manny will fight the Golden Coward. And Floyd retired, so whats left after that for Hatton? I cant see him fighting a guy like Bradley, or Holt to unify. Thats high risk, little reward. And he'll NEVER fight Witter. So I predict that the Malignaggi fight will be Hatton's last.

Mayweather Sr. may be Hatton's next trainer

Floyd Mayweather Sr.Ricky Hatton and Billy Graham gained international fame when HBO featured their relationshipin a four-part fight preview last year.

Now, that relationship is over, Graham says he was fired, and Floyd Mayweather Sr. -- father of the only man to conquer Hatton -- apparently is near the top of the list of potential replacements.

Graham told The Guardian newspaper that Hatton fired him.

Graham, who took injections to numb his chronic elbow pain so he could hold the handpads for Hatton, had served as trainer for all 45 of the junior welterweight champion's fights.

Their relationship was one of the centerpieces of HBO's "Mayweather-Hatton 24/7" production before Hatton's only career loss, a 10th-round knockout last year against Mayweather Jr.

Graham told The Guardian newspaper that he decided to retire after the firing.

"I was sacked," Graham told the newspaper, "but if Ricky wants to finish with me, that's entirely up to him. As a result, I have decided it is a good time to retire. I'm not going to get into a slanging match with Ricky because we've been through too much together. I always said I would retire when Ricky finished and I had hoped to stick it out to the end.

"We've spent half our lives together and we've changed each other's lives. It's a fantastic story and I'm not going to ruin it by bad-mouthing him. I wish him all the best for his next fight."

Hatton is scheduled to fight Paulie Malinaggi Nov. 22 at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

Mayweather Sr. confirmed recently that he was under consideration for the Hatton post.

If he gets the job, it will come only after he lost out on another U.K. fighter.

Mayweather Sr. said he expected to become Amir Khan's trainer before the 18-0 Commonwealth champion from England opted for little-known Cuban Jorge Rubio Agramonte instead. Khan also went through trial periods with Roger Mayweather, Buddy McGirt and
Freddie Roach before the surprise new hiring.

Judah vs. Clottey tonight
Former undisputed welterweight champion Zab Judah's status as a top-level fighter could rest in the balance when he faces Joshua Clottey tonight, and it won't be their first bit of shared history.

Judah is from New York, where Ghana native Clottey lives. Clottey called out Judah after a victory in 2004. According to the New York Daily News, Judah responded by confronting Clottey at Gleason's Gym, where a bit of a flare-up ensued, including Judah shoving Clottey's trainer.

"It was all a misunderstanding," Judah told the newspaper. "After his fight he went on television
talking about how he wanted to fight me. Why would he do that when we see each other in the gym every single day? I said if you want to fight me why don't we do it right now, right here. He backed down."

Clottey (34-2, 20 KOs) has not fought quite the same level of competition as Judah (36-5, 25), and has lost two of his biggest fights, including a 12-round decision to Antonio Margarito in 2006.

Clottey's other loss, nine years ago to former linear welterweight champion Carlos Baldomir, was on an 11th-round disqualification in a fight he would have won easily if it had gone to the scorecards.

Clottey's biggest victory was a 10-round win over the late Diego Corrales in 2007, one month before Corrales died in a motorcycle crash.

Clottey-Judah is recognized as a welterweight title bout by the International Boxing Federation, even though Margarito gained near-universal acclaim as the 147-pound king by virtue of his knockout over previously unbeaten Miguel Cotto last week.

Another Chavez in the U.S.
Omar Chavez, the second-oldest of legendary Julio Cesar Chavez's three sons, makes his U.S. debut tonight in a four-round lightweight bout on the Clottey-Judah undercard in Las Vegas.

Omar and his older brother, junior welterweight Julio Jr., both are undefeated.

On the same card, 27-0 lightweight prospect Anthony Peterson, of Washington, takes on Javier Jauregui (53-14-2), a 34-year-old Mexican warhorse who has fought professionally for 20 years and holds the distinction of being one of only two fighters (along with Floyd Mayweather) to defeat Jose Luis Castillo twice.

Castillo fading
Castillo's career decline continued Wednesday, when he lost a lopsided 10-round decision to Sebastian Andres Lujan.

For Lujan, it was the 29-5-2 Argentine's first victory in the U.S.

For Castillo (56-9-1), it marked another setback, in his first bout at the welterweight limit since 2003.

Castillo, the former lightweight champion, and only opponent Mayweather fought twice professionally (both in 2002), looked less like a 34-year-old athlete than a faded pro hanging on after 18-plus years, even though he is both. One judge gave Castillo two rounds. The others gave him one round.

Castillo's brief rebound from his brutal fights with Diego Corrales in 2005 -- and some historically ridiculous battles with the scales -- has been sidetracked by two losses in his last three fights, including a four-round blowout loss last year to Hatton.

Mayweather's still retired
Not surprisingly, Margarito's victory over Miguel Cotto last week did nothing to alter Floyd Mayweather's stance on retirement, according to Mayweather's adviser.

Mayweather retired in June, taking his status as undefeated pound-for-pound king with him, rather than accept a mid-eight-figures windfall for a rematch with Oscar De La Hoya.

"I get calls every day (about Mayweather reversing his decision)," Leonard Ellerbe said. "Floyd
made a decision and that's it. There's nothing to talk about. There are rumors out there, but stuff
gets made up all the time. We're involved in all kinds of entertainment stuff. Nothing anyone else is doing has any effect on Floyd."

Two of the wilder Internet rumors recently were that Mayweather was responsible for the beating that nearly killed football player Javon Walker (two other men, neither associates of Mayweather's, later were charged with the assault), and that lightweight Edner Cherry knocked him out in a Las Vegas night club.

"You know Floyd has eight to 10 friends around at all times when he goes out," Ellerbe said. "Now, imagine Edner Cherry -- who is one of the nicest kids you'll ever come across in sports -- walking up to Floyd, who is going to defend himself anyway, and knocking him out. So my question is this: If it happened, how did he get out of the club alive? That club would've been torn up. Just another ridiculous rumor."

Garrett gets new gig
Malcolm Garrett has been named director of boxing for Don King Productions and will relocate from his home in LaPorte, Ind., to Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

Garrett was a familiar boxing personality who has worked in the sport in several capacities in his home region and southwestern Michigan. He was cut man for former Grand Rapids heavyweight Buster Mathis Jr., and managed former Benton Harbor lightweight Courtney Burton, among many others.

Garrett trained Victoriano Sosa for the Dominican's 2003 lightweight challenge against Mayweather.

Garrett also worked during the 1990s as an advance site coordinator for promoter Cedric Kushner.

Maynard living in the gym
Andrew Maynard, a 1988 Olympic gold medalist, is living in the gym where he trains boxers after losing many of his possessions, and perhaps his home, during Hurricane Dolly.
