Didn't someone else on HBO once make a similar comment about Las Vegas?

I can't remember it exactly, but I thought this was brought in regards to some fighter - maybe Mayweather - and some commentator on HBO (maybe it was Foreman) said that Las Vegas is actually a great city to come to to get focused in because of the boxing community that's become established there.

It depends on what kind of proximity there was staying/training to the strip and personal discipline.

Las Vegas probably does have a lot fewer distractions during the day.

I don't quite get it.

Lewis isn't insightful, but he doesn't obstruct my watching of boxing at all. His voice is easy to tune out, so I don't care much whether he's on the call of a fight or not.

Mesi or Byrd would certainly be an improvement, though.

HBO supposedly had tryouts for the announce position during some fights years ago, so they must not have been that impressed with some of the alternatives, though I'm sure Lewis' status as former heavyweight champ is something they like to have associated with their broadcast team, and Mesi doesn't quite carry the same credentials or name recognition.

I don't think Lennox does enough to be that bad. I really don't like Kevin Kelley's commentary, but otherwise I pretty much agree with your theme and your assessments.

And, although I loathed him as a fighter, when I've seen Riddick Bowe do commentary, he was very good.

Personally, I think Czyz is the best.

Roy was just as bad as Lennox Lewis. All Roy did is speak swamp English and talk about how badass he was. Totally unprofessional. Lewis isn't good.

Byrd is ok, but he isa bit hookie.

Hopkins is a madman and he would punch Lampley, Kellerman or Merchant or call them fags on the air.

That is why Lennox has a job.

Mesi is white and didn't have a good career. In this day and age, there is no way they are going to have 3 white guys talk about a minority sport. Yeah, it is horrible, but it is the world we live in.

 

I was a HUGE Lennox fan as a boxer - as a commentator i actually do think he offers some good insight.... but its few and far between and by the time he actually says something good he has said about 30 terrible things in between. he is not well spoken nor is he even decent as a commentator. he is not meant for television.

who likened him to george foreman?? what an idiot. go listen to george commentate he is much better than lennox. the only comparison between those two is that they are both former heavyweight boxers.
