Arum told Steve Kim it's in the preliminary stages at this point, but discussions were regarding a Margarito fight at Dodger Stadium in November, on ppv, possibly with Chavez-Vanda II, Steven Luevano and Nonito Donaire on the undercard.

If the fight comes off, Clottey will be the third welterweight champion Margarito's fought this year.

Williams, Clottey and Mosely, are the three best fights for Margarito,..I'd like to see Margarito - Mayweather but,............[IMG]

Please, this fight has as much chance of landing at Dodger Stadium as a big fight does landing in Dubai.

The following is a brief tutorial to better translate any Bob Arum conversation regarding the network and venue for any big fight:

    The negotiations:
Arum will threaten to "take the fight to the people" and that boxing on PPV or in the casinos is what's ruining the sport. To hell with HBO, he can take his business to Showtime or pay for it out of pocket on his own PPV. But what's most important is bringing the fans in major American cities back into the sport.

Steve Kim will write about it every step of the way, quoting Arum, but always interjecting his own thoughts to show that he speaks Arumese. Dan Rafael will pass off said thoughts as his own a day or two later in a blog.

The Signing, buildup and events leading up to and immediately following the fight:
When the fight is signed, it winds up on HBO or HBO PPV, in a casino. Thank you's and always a pleasure doing business with you gestures are issued to Ross Greenberg, Mark Taffett, Steve Wynn and everyone else at HBO or in Las Vegas. Tickets and hotel packages are overpriced to where its the same fight crowds turning up, and where there's more energy at the open to the public weigh-ins than the fight itself. Afterward, Arum will thank everyone, say something derogatory about the co-promoter (if one is involved, especially if Golden Boy) and insist that the winner of said fight is going to lead the charge in revolutionizing the sport.

    The Aftermath:
Thomas Hauser will write an article, slamming in no particular order: HBO, Shelly Finkel, the Klitschko brothers and Golden Boy Promotions. 80% of the quotes will be provided by Bob Arum, with the other 20% attributed to "sources who only wished to go on record under the condition of anonymity."

It's down to Browns Stadium, the Quicken Loans Arena, Dubai, Madison Square Garden, Boardwalk Hall or the Mandalay Bay.

And the opponent list is down to Abraham, Felix Sturm and Marco Antonio Rubio.

yeah, that was the first thing I thought as well when I saw the location.
the problem is that they have to put it in a location that's guaranteed to draw patrons (not necessarily boxing fans). Campbell-Guzman is a solid boxing matchup, but not a fight that's going to sell any tickets.

    Yeah, that and venue availability.

Still, it seems like there's always a number of Showtime cards that sorta get rushed together and end up at questionable venues...like Dawson-Diaconu(Mendoza) landing in Sacramento.

That's just It, REED DOESN'T "Hate" Margarita N the Least...But because REED Guards Against the OVERHYPING of him, it Comes Across as "Hate"...

What IRKS REED is how Some of ya'll Clearly SUPPORT the Guy, yet REFUSE to ADMIT that U Do it...

Trumping Up Margarita's "3rd Fight Against a World Champion" SOUNDS Good, but Steve-Dave Put it N Perspective...Hell, Floyd Mayweather Did EXACTLY That (Baldomir, DeLa, Hatton) & Still Gets CRITICIZED by Some of these Same Posters for that Stretch of Bouts....

Or the Whole "Underrated" Defense Thing...Sorry, but Margarita's Defense is BAD...ATROCIOUS even...& Only a TRUE Margarita Supporter would Classify Paul Williams' 12th Round as a "Jog"...The Cat Threw OVER 100 Punches N that Round:lol:...

Margarita PROVED REED WRONG by Waxing Cotto...He's CERTAINLY an ELITE Welter & "The Man" @ that Weight Right Now...But that DOESN'T Mean REED & Others were ENTIRELY WRONG about him, Either...So let's NOT Go Overboard on him...

How many times did Mayweather even fight 3 times in one calendar year, much less against three real quality world class opponents?

If Margarito fights Clottey, you'd have to go back to 2001 to find a comparable calendar year in Mayweather's career for that kind of qualty and quantity.

Clottey isn't Williams, though, and I'd much rather that fight was later this year but it doesn't seem remotely likely.

BTW, I love how now you're only guarding against Margarito's hype...yeah, because starting a thread to let the board know you were never imrpessed by the ""ORDINARY" Margarito was simply you guarding against hype.

It WASN'T All N the Same Calendar Year, but REED would Certainly Take Floyd's 3 Fight Stretch of Baldomir-DeLa-Hatton OVER a Stretch Consisting of Cintron-Cotto-Clottey...

    Is Cintron REALLY "Quality"???:dunno:...Based On???...

As for Clottey, REED would say the Jury is STILL Out...He Beat a Blown Up Chico Corrales & Zab (Who Doesn't???)...But he's BEST Known for LOSING to Margarita...
