I don't speak enough Spanish to understand or translate. I just watched the first minute or so of it and the interviewer said that Cotto was still their champion, and they starting asking him about his mindset before the fight.

He basically thanked Margarito for beating him up and forcing him to come out of the closet.

As least that's what I got out the T shirt he has on.

My spanish is not so good.I can parphrase what he said.
I only understand half of it.

He seemed in good spirits and was not blaiming the training, or distractions like he had with his uncle for the loss. He did not make excuses. He just lost. He thought he had the fight going his way early but then lost it. He wants to continue and everybody takes steps backwards in their job and so did he. It is not the end of the world.

Imo, he was very classy in defeat.

I'm completely heal of all the punishment taken on the fight....
The first half of the fight WE knew we had it won...but then the punishment start to accumulate and i was feeling the pain..so we decided to take the knee. Its better to keep your health...and live to fight another day..thats why i took the knee.

I took the decision to take the knee..my corner had no say in it..my family/kids were there. And i thought of my family and the punishment i was going through..and they were going through so i decided to take the knee. While in the ring i saw my family in the crowd in multiple time...My family know my job and risk of me fighting..and they were not use to seen daddy in the position he was in that night..taking punishment.

It more difficult to take the knee..that step in the ring for a fight...I never had a defeat in the resume..and losing my first fight like that it was hard...BUT i want HEALTH..and i want to see my kids grow up...so to me that more important than a fight.

No i wasn't thinking of the comments that the people in the ISLAND or in the word have to say about me losing my first fight...I don't really care about what people think....I ALWAYS train to my best..MARGARITO was BETTER than me THAT NIGHT>..

INTERVIEW guy: I hear rumors from people that you didn't train enough for the fight..that you were partying around in Vegas, drinking going clubbin' etc....etc...

Cotto: I do go to clubs..and party alot..but ONLY WHEN i'm in vacation..WHEN I go to TRAINING CAMP..its to TRAIN..not to play around..everyone knows that....

I'm 27 years old...lets keep going..we have some more years of good boxing...long rest..and we will be back..

MY CORNER will stay the SAME..no changes....THIS wasn't my corners error..nobody to blame.....if there is someone to blame is the whole team..we will all take responsibility for what happen...

I liked the part when the guy interviewing asked him about the consequences of quitting. Basically if he thought about what people would say about him after quitting.

Cotto said he didn't care nor did he think about what people said.

I completely agreed with his decision. It wasn't a punk move it was a smart move.

And thats EXACTLY why people hate his ass in PR after the Beltran fiasco and the BS he pulled in his bar...he will never ever be ranked higher then CHAPO never.
IT CRAZY how my cousin Javier tells me in Pr the have dissed his ass ever since he didn't get along with Juanma from his home town...dame he will be shinning TITO'S and Gomez shoes for ever.......

that's pushing it. I know some people living in PR who say Cotto is still very well respected.

Cotto is still the best PR fighter around with Calderon. Juanma is good but still too young to be put on that level.

Me too. He took a beating. I know that is a hot issue on message boards. He didn't quit like Rahman did a few weeks ago. He lost on one night. He took a horrific beating. Imo, he surrendered and did so with honor. Quitting on your stool is much worse because imo it takes away from the victorious fighter. Taking a knee or not getting up like Arguello didn't against Pryor is better. This isn't cockfighting. I do not want to see anyone get killed in the ring ever.

Agreed! Some fighters are too brave for there own good. Cotto was smart. He knew he could always fight another day rather then to take a career ending beating. Can't knock him for that.:bears:

Mainly in his hometown thats it,Honestly i know people in Cuamo and they just really say his arrogant ways are horrible. Even an old man from his town told him at his own bar if you lose your OWN town you will be nothing.
He also got super booed when he signed autographs for like a half hour while Carlos Beltran stood there for hours signing a ton of then.
He needs to go buy a cheap bottle of PERSONALITY and splash some on.

Cotto is a very good fighter but like you pointed out his personality sucks. Because of it he will never become a huge star in Puerto Rico.

Who gives a fuck if the Ricans don't like him. He's great to watch, he'll face anybody and he's classy enough to not try and find excuses to explain his defeat. Personnally, I don't care about his nationality, he's good for boxing, period.
