Jerome Thomas of France...REED Wondered if he was Pro or Still Ammy...

    He Got BRONZE N 2000, SILVER N 2004 & ELIMINATED N his 1st Fight This Year:doh:...

That sucks. At least he could have made a few dollars by fighting at pro, but the gold medal was obviously his goal.

I absolutely agree. There have been some teriffic fights this time around and even in '04.

And body blows are being scored, and scored properly if you ask me. They won't score a love tap to the body, but if there's a good punch below the headgear, they've scored them.

We're so busy making excuses and looking for flaws in the system that we are not seeing the flaws in our own fighters.

Yes, the scoring in fights involving the boxers from China are a bit shady, but there really haven't been robberies, and I'll accept that. I'm rooting for China probably even more than I am US fighters. Not only have their fans shown immense loyalty to their fighters, but a strong showing could entice more fighters come out of a nation of one billion people.

I remember him in '04. Very talented. That's too bad that he's on the decline. Once you hit that wall in the ammys, you're done if you don't go pro.

So far, my favorite was the kid from India. Turns out that his arch rival in India was trained by his father, and it was a huge story back there.

Another irish guy john joe nevin through to next round, although the manner of victory wasn't much to shout about, he spoiled his way to victory. he will however be beaten by the mongolian he faces in the next round, the one who beat the mexican.

The American team's generally poor performance must be demoralising for the remaining fighters

yea jerome thomas was fun to watch. i remember seeing him lose to yuriorkis gamboa in the final.

he didnt do too well in the last world championship tourney so it doesnt surprise me that he's been eliminated.

ok sung lee on the other hand won the bronze in 2004 (i think) and won the 2005 world championship. he didnt do too much after that, but somehow qualified for this year's game.

it would be a great comeback if he wins the gold this year.

Call me crazy, but in watching Shimming this morning's coverage, at times I felt like I was looking at the Chinese version of a younger Roy Jones. Or at the very least, that his style is heavily influenced by that of Roy's.

REED Hasn't Seen this Morning's Fight Yet, but the Comparison is Somewhat VALID...

From what REED has Seen N the Past, Zou's FLASHY, Holds his Left Hand LOW (to LURE his Opponent into him) & Doubles/Triples Up on his Hooks...

    & His Handspeed is RIDICULOUS...

I thought that Korean won by more than just 1 point :bears:, he's an excellent fighter whoever he is, it's a pity more Koreans don't turn pro, they could help crush the American professional league even MORE than it's being crushed right now!!!!.. :crafty: ..:cheer::cheer::bears::bears::bears:

he also beat him 2005. talk about comeback. he barely qualified for this tourney yet he knocks off the heavily favored american!

koreans who want to have a successful career usually turn pro early. lee said he's retiring and plans becoming a coach for the national team. i think read somewhere that he also has a master's degree.

considering that a younger, prime Roy is arguably one of the greatest/most naturally gifted fighters in boxing history, I'd say that's a very very good thing

gotcha. i wasn't sure if you were alluding to that or saying that he's not very fun to watch.

he's a bit old to be in the olympics tho. i doubt he'll even turn pro.

oh he's a lot of fun to watch, in fact one of the many fighters this year dispelling the outdated claim that Olympic boxing is filled with a bunch of slap-and-tickle types.

VERY Flashy, VERY Arrogant Southpaw w/VERY GOOD Footwork & Headmovement...

    VERY Accurate Left Hand, Also...

He Beat a Chinese Guy by Nearly 20 pts...N the Last Round, he Had Both Hands by his Sides, Dropped a 4-Piece Combo on the Cat, then Put his Hands BACK by his Sides...

Dude is like a HEAVYWEIGHT Version of Calzaghe, MINUS the Bitchslapping...

Every African fighter has been lots of fun to watch. They're very agressive.

I managed to watch one fight in the AM, and there was an African fighter against one from Armenia. The Armenian dropped the African, but was later met with a left hook that caused a standing eight. The African fighter was doing great with the left hook for the rest of the fight, but the Armenian stayed away and rested on his early lead.

If there's one thing I'd change about the ammy rules is that they should penalize fighters that aren't making any attempt at punching. Too many fighters build up leads after to rounds, and then run for the last two.

Rarely do we see a heavyweight with flare. Hell, in the amateurs, we rarely see one heavyweight legitimately stand out from the rest. I'm really looking forward to this.
