NEW YORK (August 18, 2008) – The ticket pre-sale for the highly anticipated superfight between “Super†Joe Calzaghe and “Superman†Roy Jones, set for November 8, 2008 at Madison Square Garden is currently the largest pre-sale of a boxing event in the Garden’s history, with more than 12 hours yet to go. Square Ring CEO John Wirt stated that “tickets are selling like hot cakes and I would advise all the Calzaghe and Jones fans out there to buy soon if they don’t want to pay a ticket broker a huge premium down the road.†The ticket pre-sale began on Friday, August 15 and will end tomorrow, Tuesday, August 19 at 10:00 a.m. ET. The public sale will begin two hours later at 12 Noon. The ticket pre-sale is open to all fans registering for the free MSG Insider at www.thegarden.com and all Garden season ticket holders. http://fightbeat.com/news_details.php?NW=21780
I don't know - I find it strange that the quote made its way to the Square Ring version of the press release, yet was somehow omitted from what was otherwise the same exact release from Kelly. Those ticket prices are outrageous, esp. considering that both fighters are coming off fights that drew less than anticipated crowds for that very reason.
Agreed. As soon as I read this line "Square Ring CEO John Wirt stated that “tickets are selling like hot cakes and I would advise all the Calzaghe and Jones fans out there to buy soon if they don’t want to pay a ticket broker a huge premium down the road.†I immediately was suspicious. I know when I'm being spoon-fed bullshit.
this fight is not intriguing at all. I'd possibly pay 20 dollars to see them fight in my living room, but only if they agreed to abort and leave immediately once I deemed it no longer entertaining
I don't suppose one of you guys want to register here http://www.msginsider.com/profile.jsp?site=tg And PM me the promotional code? While I tend to agree they are hyping this one up, I am flying from Dublin and would like to secure a ticket asap.
if i do go, it will be from heathrow.....my mate works at Virgin, and got me tax-only flights to NYC for Cotto-Mosley last year, hoping i can do the same again but it is far from definite
Well if you do head over I'm meeting up with some of the American lads from FB. My flights are prices @ 480 euro.
so far, generous estimates have this fight selling 7,000 tickets so far. Just curious, what exactly was the record for previous pre-sale orders if this one shattered it?
yeah, I'm sure that was Wirt's intention ::... only the problem is (and to be expected) far more $150's have been sold than $1500's
yeah thats what i was thinking. what i find laughable is that they anticipate a huge walk up crowd. who the fuck is gonna walk up the night of the fight with intentions of buying $1500 tickets? Even $500 for that matter?
why would anyone want to pay 250 to see a washed up jones jr get beat up by a guy he wouldve thrashed many moons ago. seems depressing
Why are you talking shit for? Calzaghe will lose worse than Tito did and Tito will look good in comparison.
