What are the boxing myths that you just can't buy into? No matter how many people try to convince you of them.

You mean generalizations (box with a puncher, punch with a boxer) or specifics (Willie Pep once won a round without landing a punch)?

I was thinking more of specifics than generalizations. I actually started another topic a few minutes ago about a generalization.

Terrible thread, if I were a real mod, I'd ban you for this. At the very least, you could give one example. Honestly, that would be bad. What you did is worse. We already have one Steve-Dave. Let's keep it to that number. Some people are made to respond to threads and others to create them. Just wait and respond, kid.

One that is going around now is Mike Tyson quit against everyone who stood up to him.:lol:people must have missed the Razor Ruddock fights.

Another is Pernell Whitaker was a runner.

The truth is much more disgusting. Yes, he did run. However, he held even more than he ran.

Marvin Chestfield, the founder of the good thread police. He was a good man. Alas, a corpse he is at present. I hope that answers your question.:lol:You're Welcome for saving this piece of shit thread.

dunno if this is the sort of example you are looking for, but anyway....

i hate it when some boxers/trainers/'experts' say that you have to 'tear the title away from the champion' as if the champion has a right to some sort of head start.....'it was a close fight, but the challenger has to really has to tear the title away from the champion'....oh so the debate over who really won the bout stops there?

.......thats a myth....regardless of who is the champion, obviously the two contestants should start on a level playing field....the champion only has the advantage in the respect that if the fight finishes as a draw, he keeps the title

Imagine my surprise at you saying this...

Nah, that is a myth started by Tyson fans who can't stand the idea that Lewis blew away Ruddock when Tyson couldn't.

U've Gotta "Take" the Title from the Champion...

Perhaps NO Fighter Subscribes to that BOGUS Theory More than Marvelous Marvin Hagler(N Regards to his Fight w/Sugar Ray)...

Larry Merchant Addressed the Theory PERFECTLY when he Said, "1nce the Fight Starts the Champion has to RE-win his Title."

    N REED's Opinion, there IS NO Champion 1nce the Bell Rings...The Title's N Limbo & the 2 Combatants R Fighting for it...

    "Tyson was just a bully".

Bullshit! Tyson may have had a bully mentality, but then again so did Foreman and Liston. They were still great fighters.

Tyson was a great fighter, even if he did have a bully mentality.

To call him just a bully is underrating him greatly.

Vitaly has quit in all combat sports he participated in.

While it is true that Vitaly quit in professional boxing, amateur boxing, and professional kick-boxing, Vitaly has NEVER quit in amateur kick-boxing.

Another Tyson MYTH is that he Bit Holyfield to GET OUT of the Fight...

Nah, Mike Bit Holyfield Cause he was TIRED of the Headbutts...Mike (Not Exactly the Most Mentally STABLE Motherfucker N the World) LOST his Composure & Resorted to Back Alley Street Tactics...

REED Isn't Suggesting that Tyson was JUSTIFIED N Doing what he Did, but REED Doesn't Think Mike was SCARED & Looking for a Way Out, Either...

I don't know about that. I think Tyson was frustrated because of Holyfield's headbutts, but more so that he was losing to Evander, again.

It's not like Holyfield is the first guy to fight Tyson dirty, and vice versa.

Sure, Mike LOST the 1st 2 Rounds, but he was N the Midst of WINNING the 3rd, Prior to Biting Evander...

The MYTH Makes it Seem like Tyson was Getting DOMINATED, On his Way to Another KO Loss when he Got Desperate & Bit Holy...

    REED Doesn't agree w/that...

That Holyfield deserved the decision in the Lewis rematch but lost on the cards as a make-up for the decision first fight.

That DLH dominated the first nine rounds against Trinidad.

I agree with you on both of these.

Lewis won a 7-5, 8-4 type decision in the rematch, after taking at least 9 rounds in the first bout.

I had it 6-2-1 for DLH after nine. There were some close rounds, it was not a total domination.

I'm tired of the 'old fighters beating all new age fighters no matter what!' mantra, or some champion of yesteryear, would knock all champions out today in 2 rounds, despite them going the distances with utter pathetic scrubs in thier primes. If sprinting had no timer, someone would probably be in here squealing that "Carl Lewis woulda whupped da shit out of Usain Bolt in his prime!"...:shit:

Fraud would have whupped Ray with his back, like that special drum out of karate kid,..and Hopkins would've given Ray a lead right/clinch combination, and that's that. Have you been watching the ammy's Erratic?.. notice how many fighters replicate Hopkins style EXACTLY,...when there's about 2 minutes left with a 1 point lead..?..:crafty: ... and you really have to wonder why I've got a face like a split flower and a tongue like a lasoo?
