Amazing Grace I thought this movie was pretty good. Not exactly an in-depth look at Wilberforce or Britain, but it had some really nice performances.

Gone Baby Gone I liked this movie. I was impressed by both Ben and Casey Affleck in this one. Written by same author as Mystic River, and it had similar feel as that movie.

I agree with you. both of these films are pretty good. I was amazed at the acting skills of the guy that plays Reed Richards in the FANTASTIC FOUR movies. In AMAZING GRACE he demostrated he can act instead of just being 'plastic'. Same with Casey Affleck's acting and Ben Affleck's direction in GONE BABY GONE. Ben should stick to direction instead of acting.:mj:

The guy who plays the human torch is a damn good actor too. You should see him in the sci fi film Sunshine which other than the crap ending was a very good movie IMO.

I finally saw this movie. It was better than I thought it would be.

I thought it would be more of a chick flick. But It's a decent story very well told.

Even though it's kind of sad to see a teenage girl getting pregnant and then giving away her baby. Somehow the movie was kind of funny. Not stupid funny but it had a light humor to go with the story.

    Lost Boys-The Tribe

    5/10

Netflixed this to compare it with the first one (which time hasn't been too kindly with) It's sort of similar as what Halloween 5 is to the Halloween franchise.

Mainly got it to see Feldman. His acting wasn't too bad,it's just he talked with this horrible deep voice that just made it seem so forced. Definatley not a good movie, but not horrible either.

I'm a fan of Kevin Bacon but this movie was laughable. It was like falling down meets happy gilmore - and what was the story with the cop, what an idiot.

In The Valley of Elah Perhaps my favorite movies of last year. Tommy Lee Jones is perfect for this role. Well casted overall. The brief final scene a little too hollywood, but just a very good movie overall.

Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street I was surprisingly disappointed with this movie. Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter are two of my favorite actors/actresses, and I usually like Tim Burton's work, but I just didn't like this movie that much, though I can appreciate the performances in it.

3:10 to Yuma Pretty good Western remake here. It's not my favorite genre, but I liked the movie as I did Seraphim Falls...good work by Bale and Crowe, who really seems like a really good fit as Ben Wade.

Agreed. One of my favourite movies from last year. Both Bale and Crowe were excellent.

Oh dear Lord. Another Friday night, another chick flick with my wife. I tried to persuade her to watch that other chick flick, TEETH, but instead she choosed THE JANE AUSTEN BOOK CLUB. Ok, not a terrible film. In fact is watchable thanks to the always sexy in my eyes, Maria Bello. A group of five female friends meets on a monthly basis to discuss a Jane Austen book and try to extrapolated the meaning of its characters and situations to real life situations, which coincidentally parallels those of themselves. There is this sexy hot little thing named Prudie who is having marital problems and is getting the hots for one of her teenager male students. There is the couple of 20 years of marriage who divorce because the good old guy, Jimmy Smits, is having a love affair with another woman. There is their daughter who is an open lesbian. There is Jocelyn (Bello) who has never married and has no plans to ever fall in love. There is the twentysomething guy who has a crush on Jocelyn, etc, etc. When the movie deals with the characters problems and situations it gets really interesting, but once they meet to discuss EACH FUCKING JANE AUSTEN BOOKS the movie drags and drags. It is like a group of bible thumbpers discussing the bible and interpreting it to apply it to their lives. I mean, common on! Is just fucking EMMA and SENSE & SENSIBILITY not the bible! Like i said, because Maria Bello is smoking hot as usual I'll give it a 7/10. Otherwise it will be 5/10

    PATHOLOGY

    GRADE: D-

PREMISE - New guy joins a bunch of morgue working pathology experts. After hanging out with his new crew he gets drawn into their world of booze, drugs, and murder. The murders are done to test each other's ability to figure out the cause of death, kind of like a friendly game of guess how I killed this mofo.

CRITIQUE - If this movie sounds a bit ridiculous it's because it is. The group of guys felt about as weird as the one's from the Lost Boys only these guys were supposed to be humans not vampires. This guy got drawn into the murder and drugs way too easily and it isn't like his everyday job of figuring out how the average joe died wasn't challenging enough. This movie felt way too forced, with the characters and the story, and the pacing was pretty bad too.

HOW BAD WAS IT? - Bad enough that I eventually just fast forwarded through the movie and just touched on the major points. It wasn't a complete quit watching job but it was close enough.

SILVER LINING - For those who care -- and there are many of you who do -- there was an extremely nice set of sex and nude scenes that will probably make the whole experience worth it for you. Well, almost worth it.

THE DARK KNIGHT Okay, I finally saw it (thanks to a co-worker who brought a pirated dvd). My thoughts. Very good film. Much better than the previous one (read: I did not fall asleep). Is it the best Batman film? yes. Was Heath Ledger's Joker better than Jack Nicholson's? I had a hard time with that. Why? Because Nicholson's Joker was a 100% accurate portray of that era's Joker. This one is a film reinterpretation of the more modern Joker since THE KILLING JOKE graphic novel gave him a more psychotic spin. Still this one was a badass Joker, but not worthy of an Academy award, though, like all Ledger fans claim. His character lacked depth. He was just an insane criminal. Batman was not as interesting as in the origins part of BATMAN BEGINS. For my money the most interesting character was Harvey Dent. You rooted for the guy and you felt his pain when he faced tragedy and you truly felt pity for such a brave good guy turning bad. The action was good and the music, even though kind of repetitive was effective to maintain the suspense. Is it the best movie of the summer? Nope. IRONMAN was more fun. 9/10

I read somewhere that Corey Haim cried when he wasn't invited to be part of this film.

Tropic Thunder: I was surprised. I was expecting this to be a mediocre comedy, but its not! Its funny as hell. RDJ is a genius, and one of the most versatile actors of today. 8/10

Juno After having watched this movie, I must say I don't see what the Oscar talk was about. Ellen Page did do a pretty good though.

Reservation Road With a cast like that, you'd expect the result to be better. Unfortunately, Jennifer Connelly, Mark Ruffalo and Joaquin Phoenix are wasted on this script.

By far the second best Leone movie outside of "The Good,Bad and The Ugly". I was starting to think that Leone was a major overrated director till I saw this. To be honest, most of his flicks are too slow and too overly long when they really needn't be.

Flick about a ex Irish Revolutionary explosive expert exiled to Mexico, and teams up with a general/leader? from the Mexican Revolutionary army and wreak some havoc!!

    Definatley a great flick!

    KING OF KONG 7.5/10

This is a documentary that revolves around Billy Mitchell who is the best classic gamer in the world and has held the Donkey Kong high score world record since 1982. It documents the attempt the break the score of a relative new guy to the gaming scene Steve Wiebe. Very interesting doco and Mitchell is made to be the perfect antagonist. definitely worth a look.

la Vie en Rose Marion Cotillard's performance is one of the best on screen portrayals I've seen. Very well done. And for the boxing fans on the site...the film even delves into Piaf's relationship with Marcel Cerdan.

I just saw the "new" ABC version of the Ten Commandments. I give it a 5/10. The original is by far a 10/10 movie.

You mean the one that aired a few years ago? I thought it was decent for a made for tv movie. Keep in mind that by today's inflation the price tag for the original would be like $250 million. That tv movie made the most with its limited budget and contrary to the Charlton Heston version it was more faithful to the bible tale, plus no over-the-top overacting. I gave it an 8/10

Her performance was indeed Oscar worthy, but the movie itself dragged at the last 30 minutes when it turned into the usual "brilliant-singer-self-destructs" cliche. Yeah, her affair with Marcel Cerdan was a real key point in the film. In fact the turning point of the whole film.

This is a movie about a little guy who aspires to become a millionaire and owns a hotel and how he did achieve just that. The story took place during the WWII era in Czechoslovakia, from shortly before the War until the defeat of Nazi Germany . It's basically a sad story told like a comedy. Most of the women who appeared in this movie ended up in various degree of nudity, either topless or completely nude, world class eye-candy.

I just watched Into the Wild. I liked it a lot. Not sure about Hal Halbrook getting a nomination for his part, but I thought he was good as was Kristen Stewart, William Hurt and even Vince Vaughn...along with the soundtrack by Eddie Vedder.

The movie's story is a bit reminiscent of the doc Grizzly Man in some ways.

I hoped it would be. It wasn't.

My criticism differs from others, though. I actually liked the story being told from six different viewpoints (newscasters, Dennis Quaid, Forest Whitaker, the hired Assassin, the undercover Cop and the President). It was when it went back to real time when the movie fell apart, I thought.

I've never been the biggest Dennis Quaid fan, and thought he was way out of place in this movie - and really any action/adventure movie these days. Matthew Fox was kinda sorta useless in this movie, any given Joe could've played his role. Dude who played the hired hitter was one of the few redeeming qualities the movie had to offer.

    4/10

I give it a 6/10 because the pace was pretty good although others in the theater kept groaning when they flashed back. I didn't like the "turn" of Fox's character too. The actors touted were underused in my opinion.

yeah, to be honest, the only place I like Fox as an actor is on LOST. I didn't care for him before then, and can't recall any movie with him that I've liked since then.

To be honest, I didn't care for Forest Whitaker's part, either. He played the role well, don't get me wrong. But his actions were strange, to say the least, and not terribly convincing.
