I like how many wanna make it clear they are not DLH fans before they say he has been good for the sport

actually Oscar has been boxing's ATM card for years. He stopped being a real fighter years ago.

I don't understand why some still hold him to those hight standars as if he was in his prime.

Like the people that ask for a DLH/Margarito fight at this stage of his carreer.:atu:

I look at Oscar as a side show in boxing. Even though he is still popular and a big draw. His fights havent' had real meaning in years.

As great a fighter as Oscar's been.....he has done alot bad for the sport as well.

Driven the price of fights up just through sheer sex appeal, and set a standard that has turned alot of diehard boxing fans off.

Now, and for the past fucking five years or so......DLH can fight your dead grandma, and demand insane amounts of dollars.

So I vote that he has done equally good and bad.

yeah but how much do you blame him or the fans?

I mean the people who once ordered DLH/Campas on ppv only got themselves to blame.

Shitty fights are put together all the time. For some reason some people think Delahoya's fights are always a big deal. Regardless of how meaningless the fight is or how past his prime Oscar is.

    How Do U Figure???:dunno:...

DeLa ALERTS the Media to his Latest Plans, Issues BULLSHIT Press Releases, Appears on the Requisite Talk Shows, etc., ALL N the Name of HYPING his Fights...

    Regardless WHO he's Fighting...

U Speak as if DeLa is QUIETLY Making these Fights, yet Everybody "Somehow" Finds Out & Wants to See him Anyways...

Is it the FANS Fault that DeLa CHOOSES To Put Together as Many BULLSHIT PPV's as he Has???:dunno:...

& 1nce Every Blue Moon, he'll Actually THROW the Fans a Bone...The Forbes Fight on Regular HBO, N L.A. was 1 Example...The Last Example PRIOR to that was the Charpentier Fight....

Dela has been mostly good for the sport. Not many fighters out there have a CV that compares with Oscars. As a promoter Dela is no worse than the rest of them.

Reed your attempt to sound objective is laughable.

I think Oscar has been good for the popularity of the sport.

As a hardcore fan, I think he's the most overrated fighter of the past 20 yrs and a jerk to boot. I still remember his career before 147 (lots of BS like fighting guys like Miguel Angel Gonzalez instead of Tszyu) and then all the BS that followed. In recent years, it's turned disgusting.

Whatever. Won't be paying for that sh*t on December 6th. I'm hoping Pacman beats the sh*t out of him and then fights those, uh, lightweights he forgot to fight (Guzman-Campbell?) but, chances are, he'll take on another faded big man like Ricky Hatton after.

i don't know TWIN I gotta disagree with you on this one. It's still up to the fans to buy it or say "Fuck you, we want better." Oscar (though more specifically Arum back then) were well aware of the audience they were targeting, and just how long/far they could pimp 'em out.

So yes, it is the fans' fault. If they stopped feeding the kitty, the standards would've been raised. Instead, they'd rather spend $50 and complain later. On that particular card, there was plenty to recognize that it'd be a shit night, but fans bought it anyway.

The problem with the situation as it is now, is that promoters like Arum cater to the most dependable audience there is for the sport in the US...Mexican/Mexican American fans, and those are the least likely to be watching/ordering fights by themselves or in small numbers.

Given the rise in ppv costs with the declining quality of fights (both in quality and quantity on boxing ppv's), I'm sure a number of individual boxing fans have changed their ppv ordering habits over the past 5-10 years.

It used to be you could pay around $30-35 (and even cheaper if you go back further) and get a full fight card. Now it's $50-55 for maybe one or two fights you're actually paying for.

But instead of trying to interest those fans who've changed their spending habits with better overall fight cards, promoters - like Arum - have gone the opposite direction and now cut costs, trim their cards down even more, and almost exclusively sell their product to particular groups of Latinos.

One other thing, ppv commercials are very sectionalized now. In the area I live in, I almost never see television commercials for upcoming boxing ppv's. I think Mayweather-DLH and Margarito-Cotto are the last two I've seen ads for and other than the PBF-DLH super bowl ad, they've come during boxing programs. There's also far fewer newspaper ads for boxing these days...both on ppv and cable.

DLH has made a shitload of money for the sport of boxing, is a huge mainstream success, and has a pretty clean reputation. Every inadequacy that could put him in in a bad light pales in comparison to those three things. Whether you like him or not, those three things are undeniable and no three "bad" things can stake a claim to have hurt boxing more than his three good ones.

Boxing would be further down it's death spiral if DLH did not exist (or would have retired or sucked)

But he's like Reagan...Teflon, shit doesn't stick. Ask most people on the street about those three things and they probably don't know or remember that shit off the top of their heads. Well, the pictures are pretty memorable :) . We know them because we follow the sport closely, the general DLH "fan" doesn't. At least I don't think so.

Oh that? Honestly, black people and Mexican people fucking hate each other in California. Compared to what I hear everyday from both sides ], that is pretty tame.

my point is simple. People hate on Delahoya as if we are all forced to watch every one of his fights.

I don't! it's that simple! It's like a tv show if you don't like it don't watch it. :dunno:

Another problem is that some people still view Delahoya as a fighter. I look at him more as a promoter who still fights because his fights help his promotional company.

the funniest thing is that alot of people that are hating on this fight with Pacquiao will actually watch it and then complain about it the day after.
