right now???? I'd have to give it to Margarita but both in their prime.. Margarit would be punching air and given a boxing lesson
Margarito is the naturally much bigger man and he has good reach and a heavy jab. He would keep snapping that jab in and even though it wouldn't land that much, it would control the fight. Whitaker wouldn't dare to come anywhere close Tony so he would stay out and get outpointed in progress
B.S. ! Maragarito has exactly the work rate and unorthodoxy to over-tax and deny Whitaker his stink defense. Margarito by decision.
Margarito would easily outpoint the stinky crackhead. Pea would run and humilate himself and the sport of boxing by running, holding and clowning. He would land 10 punches in the fight and run and Larry Merchant would say what an honor it is to see this defensive master at work. The judges would laugh at the ignorant crackhead and give him a well earned loss.
Tony was made a fool by Cotto for 7 rounds so imagine against Sweet Pea. I don't even think Tony could beat Floyd let alone Whitaker.
margarito would land more shots againsy a vintage whitaker than delahoya did against a very faded version. nevertheless, whitaker W12
Back to the subject, Pernell will outclass Margarito. Whitaker was able to take Trinidad's assault for 12 rounds so we all know he can take Margarito's. A PRIME Whitaker will make Margarito look fucking foolish!
Margarito wouldn't be able to handle the southpaw style, look at his last losses-Rodney Jones, Daniel Santos, Paul Williams-What do these fighters have in common. And Whitaker in his prime was the ultimate southpaw!
Those guys, in addition to being south-paws though, were all tall and lanky. This was the factor I think more than their stance. Margarito exploits his usual height advantage more than most people realize and when he doesn't enjoy one, he struggles if not loses. He would tower over Whitaker, however, and could maintain plenty of distance to avoid Whitaker's stink (some say it's boxing - I say it's holding and hitting for the most part).
You might want to stick with 6 rounds considering Cotto got his ass kicked in round 7. :: ANyways, Whitaker is to technically sound and slick. He wins a wide dec.
It still makes me laugh when people still point out the Santos loss, like it was a real loss...anyone watched that fight knows who really won, and it wasn't Santos... Still cracks me up....
