Round by Round: Juan Diaz vs. Michael Katsidis

The best guys @ 130 may be leaving the division for good, so Juarez should be able to get a belt if given the opportunity.

 

What a strange fight. The ref was subpar. Both guys were fighting their fight but the guys on HBO may have been ignorant of their pasts. Juarez fought exactly the same way, be it an early KO or a drawn out decision loss. Barrios has always been a herky jerky boxer/puncher, and he has been gassed at the end of his last few fights. The scoring seemed off, because I thought Juarez could be given 3 rounds up to that point.

Barrios was clearly tired, though. It was his overall attitude that was carrying him for the last two rounds. Juarez, as usual, only started to throw once he actually SAW Barrios react to his landed punches, and the combo of fatigue/poor balance (another Barrios staple) led to the knockdown. The mouth cut...eh, I think it was moot. Barrios would've fought on and maybe lost another point or two to survive to the final bell and ultimately lose the decision.

 

One can never get tired of watching Rahman get planted on the broadcast table:kidcool:

 

Seriously if Diaz could learn to plant on his punches like Juarez, and Juarez could implement Diaz's activity level, then both men would likely be elite fighters (as it is, Diaz was still on the cusp of doing that!)

 

Diaz sounds like a bitch.

 

Katsidis is one intense motherfucker.

 

juarez isn't very good, but it's good to see him get a semi significant win.

 

Yeah, he's a cool guy, but he doesn't make it easy for his fans. It always feels like he could be doing more.

 

Diaz is gonna get hurt. Kat is hell bent on violence.

 

Yeah, I like the intensity of his ring walk and the music.

Rd 3 seemed close again but really, I'll take the 5-to-1 ratio any day unless that one really staggers the guy.

 

diaz can outbox him just by jabbing. katsidis can do more.
