I know that Clottey is a mental midget, and unlike several other posters, I take that as a serious flaw, the kind that makes Zab Judah a fucking scrub, but with that said, Clottey still grits and bares it, he doesn't run, he continues to fight,.. his workrate does drop and he fouls alot during one of his 'episodes' however,.. and Im sure he'll have one against 'the soul-snatcher' Antonio Margarito, but I think it's a matter of when,.. we know Clottey has a dependable chin, and is physically tough despite his mental deficiencies, if he can keep his composure for 8 rounds, he may steal a victory with his brilliant defensive abilities, then cry, and squeal and foul out the last 4 to hold on for the win.

I had clottey winning the last round

so it's not like he didn't win any rounds in the second half of the fight. Real close match, just like the first one.

I thought about picking Clottey because his style is perfect for beating AM....but like dude above said I'm not confident in his mentality.

I thought the claim was that Margarito had an ankle injury BEFORE the fight (a confirmed injury, BTW).

Yeah, Josh is my countryman and all but the chances of his hands being seriously hurt were about as likely as a VP accidently shooting someone in the face.

    yep

we had a meet and greet with Tony the first week of his camp and he complained that his hand was hurting him that first week, The ankle injury came about a week and a half out from the fight but has been an injury since the Lujan fight

looks like margarito is sitting out for the remainder of the year according to steve kim.

he is Steve and I talked about it on Friday at some wack local card

I for one am not happy about it because he and his team gave the impression they would fight again this year but to me it always seemed like they were in no hurry to do so. Tony hasn't even been around a gym since he won to be honest so I knew he wasnt going to make the Nov 1st date. Normally he starts doing his light work about 9-10 weeks out then comes to LA with about 8 weeks to go so the time frame for a Nov 1st date is out.

had they said that after the Cotto fight they were taking some time off then I would have been ok but they kind of cheated the fans who were expecting either PWill or a Clottey fight happening.

That blows. He's going to lose momentum for sure. A lot of new fans are actually looking forward to seeing him fight ASAP.

Margarito's due a gimme fight. I know he had that one just before the Cotto match but before that it was tough fights against both Clottey, and Williams who both have probably the toughest styles in the division. So I was actually surprised that Team Margarito wasn't trying to go the easy route from the start. Maybe Tony's earned it anyway.

bad move is Margarito sits out the rest of the year.

Not only will he lose momentum but unless he books a fight early 2009 he might be rusty for what could be another big fight to follow.

    makes no sense

the problem is that Tony has been struggling to get that big fight and big win which he got with Cotto.

Now he is where he alwas wanted to be at the top of 147

It is not the time to take a step back and rest. I think the Clottey fight would have been a little easier for him this time around and would given him another belt and make his stock go up a little higher.

The ideal plan would be for him to have a gimme fight before the year's over, and then face a Clottey or a Quintana in early 2009.

If he truly wants a Mayweather fight, or even perhaps a fight against his old sparring partner, ODH, he needs to continue to be on display and win impressively. As he has. I agree.

Of course a loss, and one that's avoidable in the case that he's not 100% physically, would be disastrous at this point.

I don't think a rematch with Williams is in the cards. Not anytime soon. It's too bad because he'll catch a lot of flak for it when all is said and done, but I don't get the feeling Tony plans to follow Williams all the way up to middle-weight, or even super welterweight.

Even Though MargariTO's Style WARRANTS a Break Here & There, this is STILL Slightly Disappointing News...

Not that he Cares, but MargariTO's FLIRTING w/his "Fighter of the Year" Chances...Right Now, it's HIS Award To Lose & He just Might End Up Doing that..

There are some people who believe Baldomir would actually beat Margarito.

I read that both Margarito & Cotto will be featured on the same card (yet again) and the rematch will come after that. A little early for Miguel, no? Ahh well - maybe HBO does a 24/7 this time.

It tells a lot about his character though. I think it's a bit early too but if he feels he has a chance, I say go for it because things can change rapidly in boxing.

Cotto could possibly win with his original approach if he manages to somehow not tire like he did in the first fight. But his fatigue had as much to do with Margarito as it did his own stamina issues.

Also, if Margarito isn't as prepared mentally or physically, having already beaten Cotto, it could have an impact.

The other possibility is that Cotto could change his strategy and resort to a fight in closer quarters, and turning Margarito in close the way Diaz did Katsidis, it could pay off. If he did this, Margarito's height would become a disadvantage for him. But it would mean Cotto putting himself in harm's way for Margarito's upper-cuts and body-punching, something I think his movement in the first fight was designed to avoid.

    Margarito's gonna need another knockout.

I've had some discussions with them in the past, hopefully that's not still their belief (other than dymipipel, I'd be disappointed if he jumped off the Baldy bandwagon).

I think it makes sense if he couldn't get turned around and refocused by then.

Cotto was a career-changing win for him, so if he can't get up for another fight that quickly and it effects his preparation/performance against whoever it would be then it's understandable.

Plus, it's not like Cotto (or Cintron) was a complete cake-walk for him.

If he takes a little bit longer to come back I don't think it's that much of a problem for him.

It could help him in the long run. It's something I think Morales should've done in his career. Perhaps Castillo too. It's draining to stack fights like that.

Ha! I was thinking the same thing. Then I began thinking Cotto's gonna need a knockout because unless he runs or moves A LOT more, Margarito's gonna get to him. And if he does move his feet more, he's gonna get tired quicker.

I'd expect Cotto to last the distance in a rematch. Probably be a little more economical in his punch count and probably run/move more, make more of an effort to stay off the ropes (yeah, easier to gameplan it than execute sometimes). Not sure he'll flat out run like DLH or turn his back like Morrison, but he'll definitely be moving.

The fight ended for him in the last 20 seconds or so of the tenth, IMO. Before that, it looked like he could go the full 12.

i'd rather see cotto and cintron on the same card separately taking tune-ups and then fighting each other in mid 2009 at MSG.

i dont care to see margarito beat up cotto again. dont care for the clottey rematch either.

margarito vs. williams II is a must-see unless willliams can't make weight anymore and is forced to move up.

Cotto-Cintron in Madison Square Garden would be an entertaining comeback fight preceding a Margarito rematch.

The only interesting thing about Cotto and Margarito on the same card together would be where they stage it and therefore who gets top billing. I could see Arum putting Cotto in the main.

I'm not sure we're ever going to see a Williams re at 147.

Edit: I see Arum's looking at two fights in different cities. Interesting the same promoter is doing that with two of his fighters.

Mitchell, I think the running was what got him KO'd ultimately.

By that I mean that's what made him gas. HIs punch output was no higher than normal, and until the end it's not like Marge had given him a huge beating either.

BUT Marge was on his arse every round, and he was forced to move much, much more than he normally does, and that's what made him gas.

Unless his stamina miraculously jumps up to near Duran levels, I don't see him beating Marge in the rematch.
