I always make a pick. I can't remember another fight recently when I didn't make a pick. You are never even here! You're like Ike, showing up out of the blue like you were right about something. :stir:

Tony's ability to punch on the move, the get off without setting his feet was one of the key factors in his ability to deal with Cotto's movement and cut off the ring effectively.

People saying Cotto spent too much time on the ropes need to understand that Margarito cornered him there. And that even when Cotto spun out, he was still susceptible and indeed some of Margarito's most effective shots were landed under these circumstances - due to his ability to punch on the move.

Cotto, on the other hand, needed to be set in order to punch, and that's why, despite what many have said, Margarito did exhibit some good defense. Did anyone think he wouldn't get hit by Cotto? Or that since he was that he has no defense? That's ridiculous.

Don't get me wrong. Defense is not Margarito's fortay.

Margarito's defense was to beat the shit out of Cotto's body and arms as he let Cotto land at will to the head whist laughing at his "power"

in some cases, of course. that's Margarito for you. But he did use distance and even ducked and dodged some of Cotto's shots.

he got hit plenty - don't get me wrong. and as most have said, the amount of punishment Cotto doled out probably would've done in most opponents.

but i don't agree with the claim that margarito has "no" defense, or that he's without any defensive state of mind.

It's very unfortunate that Margarito waited so many years to finally step up and fight a good opponent. If it happened just a few months earlier, before Floyd's retirement, the fight between PBF and Tony was all, but guaranteed. Now, with PBF's retirement that fight is all, but a dream...If only Margarito acted sooner....

If only Floyd didn't quit the game when he was at the peak of his popularity and the prime of his career.

What a quitter. He should hang out with Abdulaev.

Floyd's not at the prime of his career:dunno:
His prime was back when he was at 130, years ago.
He's old and somewhat worn-out now, after facing one excellent fighter after another for years and years.
It's a good thing to see a fighter who knows he's too old for the game and who retires peacefully and quietly, with all his facilities intact.

I'll sig bet you that Mayweather-Margarito will not be signed before November.

If Mayweather rejected the chance to make $20-30 million against someone he already beat, why would he take such a risk of either losing or looking very boring in the ring (remember how he took the booing against Baldomir?) for less money?

I love Mayweather as a boxer, but stop Linda Lovelace-ing him.

Cotto lost because Teddy Atlas picked him to win.

I actually agree with this non trolling Double L. Margarito did show some decent defense at time for him. He got hit of course, he was fighting Cotto. However Cotto was missing a bit more than I expected on some of his combinations.

And to add to that, I thought he did a hell of a job of covering his body. Some people wonder why Cotto didn't use his body attacks, it's pretty simple, there wasn't much to hit there.

It wouldn't really mean shit. Flat footed or not Floyds reflexes are still 10000000x too fast to get hit with Margaritos slow motion punches. Floyd would beat Margarito real easy.

  20. Hex-One

    Hex-One "Twinkle Toes" McJack

I wouldnt say real easy. Margarito will impose his will and size on PBF and try to walk him down. I think PBF wins but by no means easy.

It would be the Baldomir fight all over again. Floyd can't miss with his lead right hand. His defence and footwork would be too much. Margarito is way to slow to beat Floyd.

whatever teh case...thats why they fight the fight....yes Mayweather is more skilled...so was Cotto..but that doesn't mean a automatic victory for the more skilled guy...

  24. dymipepel

    dymipepel Im Banned

Yes, it does, if the more skilled guy in question is one Floyd "Pretty Philthy Money" Mayweather

Floyd doesn't even hit as hard as Cotto, how is he going to keep Margarito off him?

By using his superior speed, precise counter-punching and the intimidation factor.

    royyjonesjrp4pno1 "Twinkle Toes" McJack

Floyd don't need to hurt him to beat him. Keeping Margarito off him would be easy.

Remember also Floyd has a better chin, better footspeed and way better stamina then Cotto. He wouldn't slow down in the late rounds. Even though Cotto lost to Margarito he still has a better chance at beating Floyd then Margarito does.

  30. Haymaker

Right, Cotto is used to fight in spurts. Look at his fight with ndou. He got tired at the middle rounds up to the end, because he's used to pace himself. He's not used to someone throwing a hundren punches a round, while floyd can deal with that kind of pressure as he proved against Hatton and Castillo.
