Wow, I don't remember making this post. I do think it's a great idea, although my example was pretty wide.

Wonderful points. I like the Calzaghe reference as well because it does seem like a conscious effort with him and Diaz. The main difference between those two is that, when Calzaghe focuses on power, he really can close the show. Diaz has yet to demonstrate that. Not that he should obsess about it, but accomplishing a major landed power punch even once in a fight early on will keep an opponents' respect so that he doesn't have to bank on his stamina to carry him through. That was ultimately his problem with Campbell; he never earned his respect, and Campbell didn't wilt to volume alone.

Me too. I didn't see what the commentators were talking about. Barrios was throwing a lot of shots, but most were missing or catching arms.

Juarez was landing the cleaner shots. He was fighting the same old patient (boring) style he usually does, but the commentators were surprised by it for some reason.

I too felt that Juarez was ahead when the fight was stopped. Especially considering the point deductions. And Barrios himself apparently thought so too because there can be no other explanation for his balls to the walls 10th round in which he pretty much gave all he had left in what appeared to be a desperate attempt at knocking Juarez out. After that round I knew Barrios was done, although he seemed to recover amazingly well in the 11th before he got clocked.

What's funny is the announcers commented that Barrios was off balance when Rocky landed the punch. But the reason he was off balance was because he'd just been hit by an upper-cut. Ha ha ha. They were too busy ragging on Juarez for throwing one punch at a time that when he managed to put Barrios on the canvas with a combination, they didn't even see it.

I hate that I become so obsessed with the commentators' call of the fights but I sit there watching the fight and it just infuriates me to think that for a lot of people they're framing the events of the fight in favor of one fighter over the other, and no doubt influencing people's perception of what's occurring in the fight. It's pretty difficult to ignore when you consider the repercussions of their irresponsible agenda.

I rarely get annoyed, it's not worth it, I just watch the fight and try to enjoy it. For some reason Bernstein annoys me though, with a lot of the rertarded shit he comes out with.

Even though it's not often I agree with it, I do somehow enjoy the commentary. I'm not the sort of person to watch the sound of, it's stupid.

The commentary and crowd reactions add to the overall event.

Yes. Some of his shots are just light flurries, but a lot of his annoying, grunting little shots, you can see him putting everything into them, really loading up on them, and throwing them with bad intent. And they just have almost no effect.

He has no natural power, he just doesn't have that natural explosion of energy that makes someone a good puncher.
