Cotto got knocked out, he is not the better fighter. More talented maybe, but Margarito is the better fighter.

his best chance is to wage war in hopes that he can sustain a vaunted attack on Margarito enough to hurt him. Trying to outbox him didn't work, trying to slowly break Tony down didn't work, trying to keep the action in the middle didn't work.

Cotto wasn't easily dominating Margarito. The 2nd and 6th rounds were close rounds where Margarito certainly laid some hard leather on Cotto.

It was tough for Cotto throughout, even when he was winning rounds. Margarito was all over Cotto and forcing him to expend a lot of energy, and getting in shots even while being outlanded.

Sad to say but, Cotto v Margarito II is going to have the same effect on Cotto that Bowe-Golota II had on Bowe.

Great post Earner. :cheer: One dimensional? maybe but thats one hell of a dimension!! Tyson was also one dimensional in his heyday. Unfortunately Tyson would take his one dimensional approach and flatten the other guy until the other guy was only two dimensional!

Seriously, Cotto has to get bigger and stronger. It is not a stamina issue either. Nobody can sustain pressure like that purely by backing off on occasion... it just won't happen that way.

    Exactly.

It's really no different than Corrales-Freitas. Freitas was winning the rounds, but Corrales was dishing out damage.

In fact, this was worse than Corrales-Freitas because Freitas quit before he got knocked out. He didn't take the ass kicking Cotto took.

Freitas was mentally shattered. Cotto was mentally and physically done in.

The big difference is that Cotto is wanting a rematch while Freitas never wanted to get near Corrales again. The mental damage thing might be over done IMO. I'll certainly pick Margarito if they rematch, but I think you guys are getting over confident with your pick. Considering the first fight, a Margarito win is the logical choice but reading this thread you'd think this fight was a Hopkins-Trinidad like domination.

Of course, I'm a Cotto fan and I'll be rooting for him again, but reading this thread, I guess that you guys won't even watch it as it is a foregone conclusion in your mind. I'm not that convinced. Cotto may be more ressourcefull than you guys think.

Baron - I'm a cotto fan, and he clearly won the first half of the fight, at times making Marge look like an oaf.

But ultimately he was just too small, and too lacking in stamina to beat Margarito.

Those things won't change in the rematch, it's not like he fought a stupid fight, or had a bad gameplan.

I overrated Cotto a bit, underrated marge a bit, and despite Cotto probably winning in terms of rounds at the time of the stoppage, it was a pretty convincing loss.

A bit like Freitas won most of the rounds Vs Chico, but seriously, who would have picked him in a rematch?

    Fighter.

But what I meant is that Corrales completely broke Freitas' spirit and Freitas never really wanted a rematch. Cotto is already talking seriously about a rematch, hence why I said the mental damage some highlight seems overdone. I agree with you that Margarito seems too big and strong for Cotto, but still, I'm curious to know if Cotto is completely delusional about himself or if he really has something else for Margarito. I'm interested in this rematch, probably because I'm biased towards Cotto, but the point I was also making is that a lot of people here seems so convinced that this rematch is pointless that it makes me wonder if they'll bother watching it.

The funny thing is also that if Cotto didn't pursue a rematch a lot of the same people would be calling him a bitch right now. Be damned if you do, be damned if you don't. Seems like a lose lose situation for Cotto now. It's incredible what 1 fight can do to a fighter's reputation.

Yeah it is. I admire Cotto for taking the rematch, but I really just don't see him beating Marge, and this is coming from someone who confidently picked him in the first fight.

He should take it though, even if he loses, because otherwise like you say, people would call him a bitch, such as Tszyu - Phillips and many others.

After the first fight though, I just don't think he is designed to beat someone like Marge.

Marge being bigger, stronger, and having a better chin is one thing, despite being at a skill and talent deficit - but having much better stamina too is what really pushes it over the edge in favour of Marge.

Cotto has to go to the body more in the rematch. Perhaps he can hurt Margarito that way.

Agreed! I'm sure he can slow Margarito down with a good body attack.

If Cotto wins or loses, he shows incredible heart by going for the rematch. If he wins, he will be admired more than before his loss.

Margarito is a fucking Terminator. Cotto gets stretched much faster this time. Margarito has respect for Cotto so took his time. He spanks Cotto worse than Cintron.

WE NEED TITO TO KO MARGARITO Nobody wraps gloves like PAPA

Is there any other fight that should be made at 147?? other than Cotto vs. Margarito II...?...Williams would be the obvious fight for Margarito..but I don't know what going on with that guy..this last few months he has been schedule to fight everybody from Pavlik,Winky whoever else...

Margarito deserves the rest of the year off..so Williams should not bitch and just fight the trilogy with Quintana in the meantime..why move up to more dangerous opponents to get KTFO...
