...... Not always if 1 guy is just to big and can't make it. That's not Guzman. Let's be honest, I doubt Guzman even bothered to try to make weight by what fightnews put.
yet you don't have a problem when a guy puts on 20 pounds for fight night like Cazares did against Calderon in their first fight. So what if they make weight. The point is they are way diffferent weights when they actually fight in the ring which is when the weight effects will take place. to me that's a bigger deal than not making weight. because the advantage takes place in the ring not on a weight scale. Either way we are all just guessing as to who will have an advantage come fight night. That's why I won't label Guzman a cheater. Guzman will beat Campbell because he is a better fighter period.
It doesn't matter what you think. You don't make the boxing rules. The fact is it's a bigger deal not making weight no matter how much weight you put on afterwards. Hey, aren't you an Arce fan anyways? :notallthere: Is Guzman a cheater? No just an idiot IMO. Even if he wins now it don't mean shit. Campbell still walks away the champion while Guzman has to move up another weight class apparently.
In related news Wladimir Klitschko just signed to fight Ivan Calderon for the WBO/WBC jr. flyweight titles. Reliable sources have confirmed Wladimir Klistchko will step into the right at 238 pounds, kill Ivan Calderon with a jab after 20 seconds and it alll doesn´t matter, cause fights take place in a ring not on a scale, and Wlad is a better fighter period. :cheer::cheer:
....i got blasted a couple of months ago when i suggested that Guzman was unreliable .....he hsa complained in the past that he hasn't received the big fights that he deserves.....he isn't going the right way about it....promoters and tv can't trust him
They can't trust him because he will make their hype jobs look bad. Guzman is the truth. He is the real Margarito of boxing. Too much risk too little reward.
I should clarify since we argued different points sort of. I agree that the team should be aware of what a fighter weighs so they can do whatever they can do to help him (i.e. nagging, staying longer in the gym, running). So, I guess I agree that a team could be partially at fault under the right circumstances. Just like parents could be partially responsible for a kid who grows up into a bad person. But, I think the great majority of the time, the only person who deserves any blame will be the fighter (and the kid).
Exactly... & this Blatant LACK of Professionalism WILL Bite Guzman N the Ass, Soooooner or Later... REED Thinks it'll Happen TONIGHT... REED:kidcool:
In most cases you are correct, "HOWEVER" I'm not so sure this affects the fight with Nate all that much. Nate's better at 135, plus he's a naturally strong guy therefore Guzman won't have an advantage. Plus, as someone said earlier Guzman hasn't KO'd guys as he's gone up in weight. He's a cutie, not a puncher. If he were a puncher, then yes...I'd absolutely agree that he has an advantage.
Really???... REED Can't Recall Any Instances, but if it DOES Happen, it's the Fighters OWN Fault... It's 1 Thing to Miss Weight Here or there, but to HABITUALLY CHEAT the Scales, as Guzman Does, is UNacceptable... & if Guzman DOES Get "Screwed" on the Cards, REED'll have NOfuckingSYMPATHY for him...FUCK him @ This Point... Honestly, Guzman Should just Move Up to HEAVYWEIGHT, Thereby Rendering the Scales USELESS... REED:kidcool:
Campbell would likely be even better if he could just fight guzman at whatever weight he wanted and not drain down to 135. That is what Guzman decided to do.
Precisely, it's not about being a puncher, or even using your weight as an advantage, quite simply it's about not having to tax your body as much as you would to make weight. I'm amazed so many people seem to be missing this point. As many of you have seen, sometimes fighters are very much weakened by making weight, so naturally the guy that doesn't have to drain down as much is going to have an advantage, even if they weigh EXACTLY the same on fight night.
Start naming fights where a fighter came in over and it went to decision. I think Rosendo Alvarez, Beibis Mendoza, Chico Corrales, Norwood, Forbes...all have gotten the short stick when coming in heavy.
Norwood and Forbes both lost their titles on the scales, but won the actual bouts. Norwood was again heavy for the Gainer fight, but that didn't go to the cards - nor did he deserve to win even if it went the distance.
Maybe I thought of Forbes because one judge scored against him. Not sure. I know Norwood got screwed on the outcome of that fight which was clearly a low blow, but I thought the scoring was off? Not sure. I'm probably wrong on that part.
When did Beibis mendoza come in heavy? Which fight was Rosendo Alvarez screwed in when he was overweight? Corrales? Are you talking about the 3rd Casamayor fight that most thought he lost?
Mendoza against Alvarez (Lots thought Mendoza deserved this, I think. Pretty sure I did not). Alavarez against Finito. Corrales against Casa (I thought Corrales clearly deserved this one). Most thought he lost because most penalize a guy for coming in heavy, just like REED's response indicates.
Mendoza never came in heavy against Alvarez, Lopez beat Alvarez clearly in the rematch and Casamayor beat Corrales clearly in the 3rd fight.
You're right. Alvarez came in heavy and had a judge go against him. http://www.eastsideboxing.com/boxing-news/dbe2403.php No way. It was a split decision with the deciding judge making it 116-114. No way. Also a split decision with WBC looking to punish Corrales. http://www.1800-sports.com/casamayor-wins-rubber-match.shtml
...... I saw the fights I don't need links. The right guy won in both cases. Lopez won 8-4 and Casamayor won 7-5.
B-Scene is saying that Guzman might not fight because of his physical state. fight-hype says Guzman was hospitalized. Hopefully they're just rumors, but if Guzman's that unhealthy then I hope the fight doesn't take place.
What a fucking pain in the arse, just when people were about to see how overrated Guzzman is :kidcool:
I'm pissed off, I was looking forward to this fight. Partly because I was fairly confident Campbell would shut the Guzzman groupies' traps. I was probably looking forward to this a bit more than Marquez - Hole actually.
