That was a great ppv and it was worth the money. Sorry to buck a fightnight trend of complaining. On paper, it was shit and it will probbably be a bust. I enjoyed all the fights. I thought Cacapeor/Marquez was one of the best boxing matches in a long time. It wasn't a brawl or a fight many mainstreamers would like but it was some high level stuff. It was also the best possible ending except that Cacapeor is still alive. Otherwise, it was perfect especially if the Cuban stinkomb never fights again. I always knew if he nutted up and actually did what he is paid for---fight he'd end up looking up at the lights:bears::bears: FUCK YOU CACAPEOR. YOU WON'T BE MISSED.
I agree, I enjoyed the fight a lot. It might not have been a big style action fight like the Vazquez - Marquez Jr fights, but it was a high level boxing match, and with no holding to boot. Somehow Marquez' technical excellence managed to shut down the cuban's dirtiness.
On paper all the fights could have been boring, but they weren't. It was a welcome surprise. Dan Rafael called the Casa/Marquez fight "Dull".:shit:
Yeah, I went to the pub and watched it. Had a great time, although I was pissed for a while that Nate/Guzman was canceled.
I agree boxing is wonderful even if the fights aren't all wars. You just have to make sure you don't get distracted and can focus on watching all those little things both guys to to get an advantage. Marquez especially was very clever starting not too overanxious. He would have gotten countered to death with Casa's left hand. So he methodically broke him down. Great display. I also loved the Forrest fight. I think that was what i think he was capable of doing in the first fight. on form just a bit too good for Mora. That's the difference between a contender and a champion... :bears:
dsimon writes: It was a good match. J M did what most thought he would do but watching that guy do his thing is spectacular and Cassastinkyour is no slouch. It just aggravated me that the announcers were oblivious to the fact that cassastinkyour was getting beat to the punch virtually every time... It was obvious from the slo mo replays thats for sure!! At the end of the day Cassa hung in there looking for a KO... and lets face it JM did get tapped by Pacquio so this was not the worse strategy. It was also funny as the announcers realized that "duhh!!! wow Katsidas was winning the last fight against the Cuban stinker before he went to sleep.... Ah yeah guys and Cassastinkyour lost to Santa Cruz also... hello? I know I have made some stupid ones lately but it boggles me to think that people actually thought JM would lose to this washed up, crafty, Cuban Stinker!
casamayor looked old ass hell, yet he still managed to make it a very difficult and competitive fight.
I gotta hand it to Cacapeor, he sure didn't fight like he had his track shoes on. A high level of Boxing on display from both fighters for sure, I wouldnt mind seeing a re. I was looking forward to Campbell-Guzman much more, but by the time I found out that fight was scrapped, the PPV already surpassed my expectations altogether. Excellent night of fights. :bears:
dsimon writes: I disagree. watch any slo mo replay and you will see casmayor get beat to virtually every punch. It lookes like he is doing stuf because he threw stuff after Marquez, but the replay shows that while Marquez was landing cassmayor was getting hit and missing.
You and me both brother, you and me both. I agree the card was okay but no fight card is worth $49.99. Just doesn't make financial sense IMO.
I never paid for the fight and didn't watch it live. I don't quite think it would have been worth that kind of money, but Marquez-Casamayor was a good fight. Not the kind of fight i'd show as an "introduction" to potential fans, but something for real fans of the sport to appreciate. The early rounds were very tactical and difficult to score as probably most of us expected. At the same time they weren't so tactical where either fighter was completely terrified to make any kind of mistake. Both guys lunged trying to make contact and got countered for the effort. However that didn't put either into an even more careful kind of mode. It appeared after the midway point Marquez was taking control but by no means dominating. I was very surprised JMM was able to get the KO. I know Casa has had his best years behind him but i didn't think Marquez would be they guy to stop him. I figured it was going to cards and would have some wildly different scores. Luckily it ended with a KO and no controversy. (although i haven't read Joel's post fight comments yet. I'd be shocked if there weren't any excuses ) What were the official scores before the stoppage?
Surprisingly, he gave JMM his props (how ridiculous he would have looked if he didnt?), but he asked for a rematch.
As usual Casa looked pissed after he lost, however to my astonishment, he gave Mariconquez his props. The first shot that put Casa down was the type of shot a trainer should be proud of, a 4 punch combo punctuated with a nice straight right down the pipe.
was just thinking the same thing. He seems to be one of the few top level modern fighters who can consistently produce fights that aren't littered with 15 clinches per round.
