Just checked the schedule and Gamboa and Angulo are fighting on the card but no Kirkland. The new addition to the telecast is Sergio Martinez. Kirkland has a fan freindly aggressive style and he is not appearing on the telecast. It would also give HBO a chance to build up a fight between Angulo and Kirkland or even Vernon Forrest and Kirkland. Can somebody let me know why Kirkland isn't on the telecast.......
... and as a result, fought earlier this month on another promoter's show on ESPN2, while waiting to sign with Top Rank, like every other Cameron Dunkin-managed fighter.
Jason Litzau is/was an action fighter also. he didn't belong on HBO. He's an ESPN/ShoBox quality fighter as well. In fact, I'd argue that Litzau is BETTER than Kirkland.
That's a stretch. The fellow that Kirkland beat on HBO, Eromosele Albert, is actually a pretty good fighter.
Yeah, action fighters are good to watch against limited opposition, and great to watch against other action fighters...but they aren't when they're getting outclassed by far superior opposition. And when they don't have any punch resistence - like Litzua - those outclassings can shorten careers that could have been prolonged on places like ESPN.
I think Kirkland has a good story with Ann Wolfe training him. Everytime he fights, you'll see her profiled just as much as him (kinda like Ouma's military story everytime he fought). At the end of the day, I just don't think there's much there and I've thought as much since the first time I saw him on Shobox. Also, I didn't think Albert was that good either...wasn't impressed by the win.
Litzau was on HBO once, right? When he was KOed in the 9th after leading on the cards? That was my favorite HBO moment of 2007!
You mean 2006. Rocky Juarez beat the bum who KO'd Litzau on the undercard of DLH-RetiredWeather The Litzau KO was funny...like you said, he was winning on all scorecards then got clipped. I know Litzau was KO'd earlier this year as well...I know it was on TV..I'm guessing it was on Showtime. Can't remember who KO'd him but I remember him getting his ass whupped then KO'd.
Yeah, I think it was that win that - somehow - vaulted Guerrero to #1 in the estimable Ring Magazine rankings. Probably because he's with Finkel. That was probably part of the G sales pitch.::
I like the Kirkland/Angulo fight, that is one that should definitely be put in front of fans on a high profile PPV. As much as we all complained about him, King was the master of this.
MARCOS RAMIREZ , the guy that Gamboa is fighting, HBO says he is 25-0 (25 KO) while boxrec has him at 25-0 (16 KO). Which is right?
HBO of course. Boxrec just tunes those records to make them look more unimpressive. You know all those "Decisions" with the exact score card results... all bogus... :atu:
I seem to recall ramirez pulling out of a couple fights that were his inevitable step up. he's fought a lot of midwesterners
haha I noticed that as well. martinez is an awkward boring fuck. he was even able to make a margarito fight dull.
Yeah, thats why I wondered if it was the same fella. Sergio is a real tricky cunt. Made Richard Williams look lost and does the same thing to alot of decent fighters. I wouldn't want any of him if I'm a belt holder @ 154.
