I havent heard hardly ANY trash talk from him since the initial press confrence. So either Mayorga A) knows his gimmick is tired B) Respects Mosley more than than his previous opponents C) Is intimidated by Mosley D) Has little interest in this fight, and is just showing up for a final payday. Thoughts?
i'd go with A and D......thing is, how many times can you slag your opponent off, to such a degree and then be all cuddly with them afterwards, telling them that you only said what you said to sell tickets.....thing is, this fight more than vs DLH or Vargas probably could do with the hype
I agree its A and D. He knows his shit is tired, and I think he's coming for a final cash out. I see him fighting hard for maybe 2-3 rounds, then folding up and becoming a punching bag.
E) It's not a PPV fight, therefore less exposure, less general interest in the fight (and show in general) and less opportunity for Mayo to spout his usual BS
It's tired...he knows he will lose...and it might be his last payday....why go out talking shit and getting kotfo again....just go humbly dumply...
My guess is Mayorga doesn't want to motivate Mosley. If you somehow manage to piss off Mosley (who is one of the nicest guys in boxing), you're just going to take a worse beating than you would have before. Shane in 5.
well mayorga would say all sorts of inappropriate things and all shane would do is just smile and say along the lines of 'i'll train hard for this fight. i train hard for every fight blah blah.....'
he respects mosley as well as the other listed reasons. 'fold' is right. mayorga will fold like japan's futons and fans
You guys are funny. When was the last time Mayorga didn't fight hard or just folded. I watched Shane hold for 12 rounds straight against Forrest. I never seen Mayo do that shit. I agree its surprising that Mayo isn't talking mad shit but im sure the talking will start next week.
I think he is sick. Sick of getting KTFO. It looks kind of bad on you when you talk shit like Muhammad Ali, yet over here we can youtube 30 minute long highlight reels of you getting stretched like tomorrow's bacon. Mayorga probably has shut up because of option E). Even he doesn't believe in his shit talking anymore.
I knew what this thread was going to be about before clicking on it. I hadn't thought of it until I saw the thread title, though.
Probably D. I think Mayorga is just looking for big pay days now and is looking to be done with this. He probably would have retired after the Trinidad fight if he had been financially secure but he couldn't then. Maybe now he's hopefully saved up some dough from the nice paydays he got from the De La Hoya and Vargas fights, and this one could be the icing on the cake. Overall, you can't deny Mayorga's been succesfull. I mean, not many fighters with his kind of skill level become champions. Usually guys like him never even get close, but his sheer hunger and toughness got him to the top, even if his stay was short. One thing about him is that he made it interesting. I just hope he makes the fight with Mosley at least competitive before he gets put out.
Which now will probably happen since everyone is picking Mosley. The real key is who Double L will pick. Then we'll know for sure.
I think Mayorga knows that no matter what he says he can't get under Shane's skin. The guy is too laid back. On the first conference Mayorga tried to to clown him bringing some pink gloves and told him it would match his pink trunks. Obviously not very creative and Shane just smiled at him. I guess that was the end of that. Unless Mayorga tries something at the weigh in.
even then I don't think Shane would do anything. The guy just smiles at everything. Jin would probably beat the shit out of him with her heels though.
Mayorga is nothing more than a glorified club fighter. If not for his "trashtalk"....he would be the ultimate overachiever, a.k.a. "Cinderella Man". The guy had guts and mouth but NEVER had skills.
He doesn't care and his schtick is old and tired. The funny thing is off all the elite fighters he has lost to I think Mosley is the most winnable for him and if by some miracle he comes to win like he did against Vargas he will win. I doubt he cares.
I think he could win this fight too. My pick is Mosley, but I don't think any of us would bother watching the fight if we didn't think Mayorga at least had a chance. I think he's bigger than Mosley, and save for shots to the body, I don't think Mosley will be able to hurt Mayorga. On the other hand, I think Mayorga's clubbing rabbit punches could hurt Mosley.
'Scuse me while I pat myself on the back... :: Ten minutes into a media conference call so far: "I'm going to knock out Shane in 2-3 rounds. "He's not fighting another 3-4 years, he's going to retire after Saturday. After this, he will be washing dishes or mop the floors in his house. His wife runs the show so she doens't do that stuff, so he can wash dishes for her after he's done with boxing this weekend." "If Shane decides to stand toe-to-toe with me, I'll knock him out in a round. If he runs like I know he will, then it will take me two or three roudns to find him and knock him out." "The only reason I predicted a 2-3 round knockout is because I know he's going to be running. He's going to run around the ring like his wife has him running around his house. When I knock him out, he can wash dishes for her." "Shane is nothing to me. My son (Vernon Forrest) already beat him twice. The only reason I wanted to fight Mosley is because he beat Oscar de la Hoya. The fact that he beat de la Hoya twice is really why I want to knock him out on Saturday."
