We have seen Mayorga take some serious clean shots to the chin and it wouldnt faze him. Now it's safe to say Mayorga is far from him prime which can explain these ko losses. So my question is just how good was Mayorga's chin? I remember Larry Merchant once said when Mayorga gave away free shots to the chin it was a trick, because you can see the punches coming you can take them. But regardless if you can see them he gave Tito 3 free shots to the chin and he took them very well. He also allowed Forrest to unleash a few shots which also didnt seem to faze him. Thought's?:dunno:
dsimon writes: merchant is absolutely correct. Yeah you don't want to do it too much and I would not have done that to a guy like Tyson who will hit you with 5 shots after... but you can prepare for the punch because you know it is coming. Mayorga does not have all that of a chin. He has a good chin and has been KOed by more than a few guys.
The prime mayorga was unstoppable to the head. Even Tito only stopped him with Body punches. Right now his chin isn't the same though.
I agree! I once thought he had a Great chin. But now I see he just has a good/Decent chin. Nothing special.
That's what I thought, Tito had to work the body to take this cat out. But if you watch the Delahoya fight Mayorga was clearly hurt and dropped by punches he didnt see. So now I question how good his chin really was. He has a good chin but not GREAT. This could be another case of TitoSyndrome!:: J/K
Tito almost dropped him with that headshot when Mayorga let him nail it for free. Mayorga did a cutesy little dance to try and shrug it off, but you could tell it really shocked him. My all-time favorite Mayorga moment is the look on his face when Oscar dropped him with that first left hook. He got a different look on his face as if to say, "WTF was that?" ::
In his "prime" Mayorga fought no punchers. Of course he could look like superman. Since Ricardo got thrown in with people who have the ability to make him miss and make him pay...he looks human. Duh. He is.
I was in shock when I seen that! Again I was convinced he had a GREAT chin, but it was a great shot from Delahoya. Right on the button!
stupid... he took everything from Tito to the head (see or no see) and NOTHING happened until Tito went to the body. Everybody who thinks he didn't have a great chin is retarded.
Yes and his chin is vastly overrated. If you believe Manny Stewart Vernon Forrest had a badly compromised strength and power when he fought Mayorga. (Still enough to beat the dogshit out Shannon Mosely twice, but I digress). Once you note that one exception, one can see Mayorga's chin is slightly above average and nothing more.
Have you actually seen the fight? Sure Tito ended it on a body shot, but he'd burt Mayorga's skull a BUNCH of times before it.
He hurt Mayorga in the first round. I think Mayorga perservered because of TITO's doggy chin and that gave him hope. I agree with your earlier post. Mayorga got stopped everytime he fought a good puncher and last night he got stopped by a pillow fisted Shane Mosely. Vargas even hurt Mayorga and he was the walking dead. Mayorga's chin is as mythic as Michael Katsidis' skill.
I agree with Ike for once. Forrest was never a big puncher to begin with so even though he was hitting Mayorga with hellacous shots it didn't matter. I think Mayorga just had a great showing that night that was more a fluke, kind of like the great showing Forrest had against Shane which also was a fluke. So I agree, Mayorga's chin, much like his power was vastly overrated. I also have a theory that Oscar paid Mayorga to take a dive, but I don't put much stock in it, I just find it curious how easily he went down against Oscar while factoring in Oscar's bailout with Hopkins, his sparring session with Floyd, and his pussified matchups with Forbes and Pacquaio.
A fluke that happened twice. He castrated Shannon in the first fight and he made him hold and run like a bitch. And please, last night is proof postive that Shannon Mosley is a lighter weight John Ruiz and not held because of his fast hands. Mosley is as much Ruiz and Hatton as they are. Shane is a p4p man holder. Mayorga is only in a boring fight when his opponent is a stinker. That is why last night was an abomination. Shane should have been dq'd in the Forrest re and fined for his unsportsman like conduct last night. Forrest had to injured hands and he almost killed Shane. I will next day air my gold plated dvd. I have a copy of that fight in my safe.
Forrest had two injured shoulders not hands. The reason I say that fight was a fluke was because if you look at Forrest he never ever looked that good in his career, just like Mayorga never looked as bad as he did when he beat Forrest. I'm not saying Forrest wouldn't beat Shane any other time prime for prime, not at all, I'm saying that I doubt he'd have done it to that degree at any other point. Even in the rematch he wasn't that successful just like Mayorga wasn't in his rematch against Forrest.
If you factor in the fact that the dumber than Eric Morales Shane made some nice adjustments than the answer could be yes. Me I'm going to say no, because Shane looked no better than he normally did and to be honest he won that fight because Oscar fought a dumb fight and faded late as usual.
yeah well he was landing like 50-60 power shots each round and is supose to be one of the very best punchers... are u on crack or something?
Of course it was. Look at the rematch DLH HANDLED Shannon with ease. Shane is one hit wonder. I cannot believe he lost to Cotto although I think the fight was a draw.
you have your moments man... I don't give a shit what Manny Fuckass says but Forrest was the only ever guy to knock Mosley down and he couldn't do shit with Mayorga's chin. Then Tito lands 400 power shots on his chin (oh and hurts him amazing) and stops him on a body shot (where Mayorga was 2 weight classes above his prime weight) and you have the nerves to call that chin slightly above average??? :notallthere:
No, Shane beat a prime Oscar. Cotto would have been killed. Mosley is overrated and faded but he is a far better fighter than Cotto ever will be.
He outweighed DLH by 20 pounds and he got stopped by him. Tito isn't a puncher ever since Bernard Hopkins blew the whistle on the hand wraps.
this is some bullshit... even IF Mayo had 170 like yesterday which i doubt he had Oscar would have had at least 160-165.
