Damn, did Gonzaga absolutely ruin Cro Cop?

The guy has looked like shit since and the Dream 6 fight with Overeem was really no different. It was rule an NC because of groin shots, but he looked like shit up to that point.

I think the most damaging fight to Cro Cop's career was the Hunt fight. It showed what you could do to Mirko if you stayed on his ass and could land upstairs. He fought like a scared bitch and has never really seemed the same since.

 

There is an interview somewhere with Big Nog and Pedro Rizzo (I think) and they talked about Mirko not having a warrior's heart, and that's why he isn't a truly great fighter. Cro Cop is lethal, but when you put the heat on him he seems to fold...

 

Cro-Cop looked awful, and it was clearly the knees to the stomach that did the damage, more so than the nut shots.

It's amazing how MMA fighters can go from in their prime to totally washed up seemingly overnight. Look at Cro-Cop, Hughes, Liddell, Wandy, etc.

Overeem always looks good when he's fresh. He was whooping chuck liddell when they fought too. Problem is he can't fight a whole fight. He gasses. Cro Cop fought him for what 4 minutes? The next round would have been a different story when Alastair gassed. I'm not saying cro cop isn't done at the elite level, he is but Overeem is known to gas out.

 

I don't follow Overeem very closely, but the gassing could partly be due cutting down to 205. He's a big motherfucker; 6'5, 240, with not much fat on him.

 

Overeem gassed just as bad as a roided up 230 pounder.

 

Yep. Had Cro Cop made it through that round he was very much still in the fight. Not saying he was on his way to winning, because he's obviously on the decline, but he was still in the fight. Overeem has looked very good early in a lot of fghts he's lost.
