30 DAYS OF NIGHT Based on the hit graphic novel of the same name, I was really amazed how good this movie is. Is the first vampire movie since INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE that really got me glued to the screen. It is not really scary (hey, is a vampire movie!), but it can create a little tension as in a nightmare when the main caracters are hidding in that attic and listening the screams of the victims and shrieks of the vampires as they roam and search house by house looking for the remaining victims. It was that aspect of the film the one that worked best IMO. The isolation of the locale (remote town in snowy Alaska) and the knowledge of the sun not coming up for a full 30 days is the best premise the movie could have. Of course the movie is not without its flaws and cliches. Even the film's climatic resolution seemed far fetched given the circumstances of the events that precede it. Anyway it was an entertaining film. 8/10

I watched Grindhouse a few days ago so I did a search on "Grindhouse" to see what others said.

I liked Cocaine Cowboys....I have the sequel but haven't got around to watching it yet.

    THE RUINS

    GRADE: B-

PREMISE - A group of vacationers go to a remote area in mexico to see some ruins. Once they get there these villagers start acting crazy and force them to the top of one of the ruins. Meanwhile while they're up there they have to contend with a deadly plant. While trying to figure out how they'll get back down the ruin and past the crazy villagers who won't leave until the vacationers are dead.

CRITQUE - Most people hated this but knowing it was about plants and expecting a shit movie probably helped me like it. Still I don't find it a hard movie to like at all. I recommend this movie it was pretty good.

I wanted to like this, and the mock movies ads are funny, The plot is a good one, the cast is fine but the script is crap, and there's no getting past that, laughs are few and far between. Disappointing.

Dirty Pretty Things: A couple of immigrants in London trying to get by, and the events that follow after one of them finds a human heart in a toilet at the hotel they work at. I didn't like this movie.

Little Children: Similar in ways to American Beauty for the whole "suburban hell" theme. Dysfunctional marriages, sexual deviants, one dispicable cunt in the movie, etc...Very well-made and well-acted movie. Some humorous scenes in there (it helps that I'm sick and twisted for one of these scenes). Jackie Earle Haley was excellent as the sex offender who just gets out of jail and gets his picture posted around the whole neighborhood.

The 2nd one sounds good. I think I'll check it out. Is it on rental or in theaters?

I was laughing at that, but I thought that was meant to be funny. :dunno:

There's another twisted scene later on that I felt was made to be serious, and it was, but nevertheless I found it funny.

The car scene after the date.

I had a feeling that would happen, the way they shot the scene lead into it.

The guy who plays Brad in this movie, named Patrick Wilson, was in another movie I just watched called Hard Candy. This was a thriller about a girl turning the tables and exerting power over a suspected pedophile. The girl is Ellen Page, who was in Juno (I never saw that). I liked this, but some of the scenes made me a little squeamish. She's a good actress. Wilson was solid too. The whole movie basically these two characters, except for some small appearances from a couple other characters.

LITTLE CHILDREN is a good drama, watched it like six months ago I think and the TITANIC girl (I just can't remember her name right now, LOL) was really good as the sexually deprived wife/mother. The scene in the laundry room is an instant classic! I really felt pity for the pedophile character. Even if he was a monster in the past all the isolation, rejection, abuse and pain he went through was more than anyone could handle, thus the reason for doing what he did. His "I have been a good boy" scene is shocking and powerful. I gave it a 9/10

that dude that played the Pedophile was in the original "Bad News Bears" he was the little criminal kid that had a motorcycle.

I had not seem him for years until he did "Little Children" he got an Oscar nomination for that role.

he was very creepy. The part in the swiming pool when he is watching all the children underwater. :notallthere:

Great movie. I don't know why the critics are ragging on it. I think it probably has something to do with Spike Lee running his mouth, but I give Spike credit because this was well done. I recommend it wholeheartedly.

IMDB.com ratings mean shit again as this movie gets a 5.3 and Eagle Eye gets a 6.9. I saw both and Miracle at St.Anna is twice as good as Eagle Eye.

The Assassination Of Jesse James By The Coward Robert Ford

    3/10

About as boring as I expected it to be!! Basing off of all the negative reviews of this flick,I went in with very little expectations. And boy,I wasn't let down.

Very drawn out plot,I had to put the volume up to about 30 because I couldn't understand of fucking WORD during that first 5 minute scene with Casey Afleck! Not even the scenery in High Def could even make this a watchable movie in any way. Though I have to admit the movie had a very well emotional/planned out final 5 or so minutes at the end.

Very overrated and highly boring flick to come out of the class of 07' (the first pretty decent year for movies since 2001) Not recommended!

I really enjoyed this movie, agreed it has a really slow pace but Affleck IMO produces an excellent performance.

I didn't see Eagle Eye, but I saw this and have to disagree with you. I tend to not pay the critics any mind when it comes to Spike Lee movies because more often than not most of his material flies over their collective heads.

But as NobleArt and I discussed in the other movie thread, Spike almost always finds a way to enterain or maintain interest. He didn't do either in this movie, taking himself way too serious, acting like the topic in and of itself and running the movie for over 2 1/2 hours automatically qualifies as an epic.

I've seen worse war movies and worse Spike Lee movies, but this is the first time where I felt like he was completely out of his element with the subject matter.

Frailty: Psychological thriller about a serial killer. Released a few years ago. Even while playing a loon, Bill Paxton manages to be unintentionally funny to me. Matthew McConaughey (actually not in a stupid romantic comedy) and Powers Boothe also are in this. I liked this movie a lot.

This movie is off the chain. I loved the twist at the end. A definite recommend.

I also agree the Assasination of Jesse James sucked ass. I always hear how great a performance Casey did. So fucking what! It was a great performance from him but it was still a boring fucking movie. Just like Lewis' performance in There Will be Blood couldn't save that movie from being boring.

I don't know, I seem to remember expecting that twist to come for at least half the movie...and it didn't really take that much explaning/revealing at the end to make it fit.

And I'm not sure I liked Paxton as the director, this movie seemed more stale than it should have been...because it had an interesting premise to it...a bit like Se7en in a way.

I agree it's worth watching. It's original enough for that genre, and takes an interesting enough perspective to tell it, that it's worth taking the time.

Just thought it underachieved a bit.
