Who Is Better: Mayorga or Vargas

I thought Dibella pushed for it.

 

DiBella did push for it and it lead to Reid losing his contract with the company.

 

So going by that, I guess Cory Spinks had a better career than Vargas also huh?

The differance between them is in thier biggest fights, both came up short. But at least Vargas gave a good account of himself. Mayorga was blown away like he didnt belong.

I think the ONLY reason this being debated is cause Mayorga beat Vargas head-to-head. A Vargas that had two feet in the grave, and was basically already retired.

 

Mayorga actually won a big fight. Two of them. Thats significant. More so than who looked better and had the better skills. Vargas was undeniably more talented than Mayorga...but so are alot of fighters. Fighters like Vernon Forrest.

 

Well you can say the Quartey fight was a big fight, at the time. Vargas won that. Personally I'll take multiple good wins, over a big one. Mayorga simply had Forrest's number. Who's to say that Vargas wouldnt have beaten Forrest also? OTHER than beat Forrest, who the hell did Mayorga beat? Six Bums. Hell other than Forrest, Mayorga didnt even beat anybody as good as Raul Marquez, or Campas.

 

Quartey was a big win...if you're going to include those, then plenty of fighters have big wins. Mayorga beat a top 5 P4P fighter. Knocked him out. It easily trumps Vargas' "brave" efforts in losing.

Boxing is a sport for winners.

I'd pick Donald Curry over a bunch fo welterweights who I think are better and greatr.

 

I thought Reid lost his contract because he got his ass whupped by Trinidad.

 

Reid got shoved onto Showtime for that fight.
