According to a pair of stories from MaxBoxingScene, it's over between Arena Box and GSP, and that there are some the promoters in play...the two mentioned prominently being Don King and Golden Boy.
smart move. Make all the cash you can from the kid before he gets knocked out cold and lose his value....if he ever had any.
I could tell you of another fighter around that division who's dropped his promotional company and is about to sign a big one.
Doesn't matter... Shaw is better served with middle of the road and prospects than dealing with big name fighters. He always proves to be out of his league when involved in big events.
If he ever had any? There's a reason a large % of boxing fans speak so highly of him. His talent level is off the charts compared to normal prospects. Of course that equals value. A lot of value.
Bum prospects like James Kirkland, Gamboa has a future until he steps up. Kirkland can lose to a fellow bum at any moment.
Perhaps, but do you think his new promoter sees the potential and is trying to cash out now? How much money can he/they make with keeping him with a steady diet of beatable opponents vs somebody "respectable"? The usual answer to that is until their first loss. And as you pointed out Gamboa isn't likely to lose to a bum.
I think Gamboa's corner is a mess. I am talking about his agent, manager, whoever is in charge of his carreer. Everytime I see the guy fight is at a different weight class. Every time he fights it's suposed to be some eliminator for a tittle. EVentually he fights another scrub. Gamboa has crazy amount of talent but it seems like somebody is not doing a very good job with his carreer. I wouldn't be surprised if he fights at 135 next ::
Actually, he's not packing arenas and selling ppv's, so that makes him unvaluable. Potentially valuable, maybe.
